Features

Video Editor is an app which does just about everything its name would suggest. Using this app you can mix together a range of videos and photos, from the past or shot live, to create a polished movie.

Splicing and rearranging media isn’t the only thing this app is limited to however. It has many more features ranging from simple abilities like adding captions, to movie sound effects and professional photo slideshows. This makes Video Editor perfect for any project ranging from the most casual and amateur projects, to even corporate videos. This app can really handle it all, it’s just up to the user what they create with it.

Mission Accomplished

From voice over features to amazing transitions, this app really does cover it all. Below are just some of the things you’ll be able to do with Video Editor:

+ Trim and rearrange videos
+ Create amazing photo slideshows
+ Add over 50+ Movie Sound Fx

The style of the icons and fonts found within this app don’t seem like they were designed specifically for a flat interface. Some icon alignments are off, and I get the feeling that the user interface was put together using a template or boiler plate icon pack.

It’s sort of a shame that the user interface looks like this since it’s clear that the developer put a lot of work into the functionality. If the app looked as good as it functioned, it would be given a chance by more people browsing for video editors in the app store.

Conclusion

If you have any video editing needs that need to be met on your iDevice, then this is the app thatwill get it all done.

Run Juan Run is a free concentration game. It was developed by Amir Kaner and is available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Gameplay

In this game you have to help Juan run in the running mode, or you have to help him do pushups in the pushups mode. To keep run exercising the player will have to press a button every time it turns green.

In the pushups mode the green button is pressed once for Juan to go down, and once to go up. There’s only one button in the pushup mode, while the running mode has two red buttons which alternate to a green color when they’re ready to be pressed.

If the green button isn’t pressed within a timely manner, then Juan will fail. Also, if a red button is pressed at any time, Juan will also fail. At the end of the game the player will be able to see their score.

This game is quite addictive and it also has a good range of power ups which make the game easier. These powers ups can be purchased individually for $0.99, or all five power ups can be purchased for $3.99. These power ups (they’re referred to as features in the game) can be tried out for free for the first couple of runs.

This game would be much more fun if friends could be challenged to beating your score, or if you could player multiplayer mode online and locally.

Conclusion

If you like games in which you play for as long as you can to beat your previous record, or a friend’s record, then you’re likely going to enjoy Run Juan Run. This game is challenging, addicting, and fun. Most of all, it’s free and ready to download right away.

Sometimes when I’m reviewing really un-fun apps, no matter how hard I try to get into them, they are just apps that I’m reviewing and not apps that I’m into. I have to say however that with MeowMix, I forgot I was even reviewing an app and I became really immersed in the gameplay.

A little backdrop on myself: I’m not the type of guy to watch endless videos of cats on YouTube, let alone even find cats that interesting to watch. If anything, I’d say this game’s cats have nothing to do with my liking it. The sound effects, game mechanics, and controls however are really stellar. I can’t place my finger on what I like best about this game because it truly is great overall.

Gameplay

In MeowMix you shift falling shapes of different colored cats to match them and tap them to make them disappear and earn points. If the cats aren’t matched enough and tapped, they will eventually pile up over the limit and the game will end. Tapping on combinations of more than three same-colored cats will earn you points however, and the goal is to earn as many points as you can before you get overwhelmed.

In addition to cats, there are some other perks that fall down which can be tapped on. Not to mention that cats can be tapped on and removed in “chains” instead of just three’s.

Room to improve

When pressing on of the social buttons, I believe the one that says “VK,” a message box comes up saying that posting was “successful” even though you’re never asked to login. Other than that though, I haven’t seen anything else that this app needs to improve on.

Conclusion

If you like puzzle or action games, then you should give this game a try. Although it has a “restore purchases” button in the menu I wasn’t able to find anything to purchase in the game. If anything, this game is completely free to play and enjoy. So why not give it a shot?

App Icon

Gameplay

This game consists of quite a few games for the betterment of children. One of these games is called “drawing lines” which requires the player to draw similar length and angle lines. Another mode within this game includes “quantities” in which the player has to choose the correct amount of objects as the number shown, as well as “puzzle” which involves putting pieces of an image back where they belong.

Sami Apps also has a flashcard section which kids can learn colors, numbers, food, and animals through. Not to mention its story mode (which seems like it does not work currently).

Mission Accomplished

In addition to all the game modes, there’s also a “utilities” section which is basically a sound machine for children to help them fall asleep.

Room to improve

While playing this game I was not able to get the story mode to work. It’s supposed to allow the player to choose different story parts and shake them together into a story, but that did not work for me. In fact, the graphics of some of the story elements stuck around while leaving the story mode and browsing other menus.

Conclusion

For a free app Sami Apps doesn’t seem to deliver enough value. It’s not even worth the space it takes up on a parent’s phone in my opinion. There are plenty of other apps, or resources, that a parent could use to teach their children colors, animals, and numbers. If anything, parents have been doing this for thousands of years without any apps. Even if Sami Apps is free, and even if it wasn’t glitchy when it comes to its story mode, it really wouldn’t have much use for a parent.

Also, the app is constantly trying to up-sell the parent or child using the app into buying in-app purchases.

Gameplay

In this $.99 game, you man a blaster in order to shoot down all of the “enemies” falling from the sky. I say “enemies” since this is how the app store’s description refers to them. Personally, I think that these objects look more like water balloons and donuts.

Since the game ends when the doodled object hit the earth (don’t worry, you have shields as well), I guess that the innocent doodles are “enemies” when it comes to succeeding in Mega Blaster. These falling objects don’t look that menacing though, so the term might be a bit misleading: this game is laid back to play.

The blaster in the center of the screen will rotate from the left to the rotate continuously, and when the screen is tapped on the blaster will shoot a projectile at that angle. Projectiles bounce off the left and right edges of the screen a few times, and if they don’t hit anything, they will explode.

Mission Accomplished

In Mega Blaster there’s quite a few perks that can be picked up along the way by shooting them down when they fall. Other than that though I did not notice many other features or parts of the game that stood out.

Room to improve

Mega Blaster feels very constricted in terms of gameplay. The blaster rotates a bit too quickly and I feel like there’s no way to control the game other than to tap on the screen randomly. To me, the game mechanics seemed off, as did the fact that this game is $.99 versus being free.

Conclusion

Unless you like games that go from easy to almost impossible to play within 30 seconds, and that have no control mechanism other than tapping randomly, I wouldn’t suggest this game.

Simply B&W is simply one of a kind app. It is free and available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Features

In addition to this app being really great for taking “scan” photos of documents, it is also phenomenal for taking black and white photography. Using this app you’ll be able to adjust the tone, brightness, and contrast of your photo in real-time before you even take it. Unlike other apps on the app store that let you take color photos and then apply black and white filters to them, this app does it all in real-time so you can look at the world directly through a monochrome style.

The best part about this app is that it lets you added a simulated film grain and B&W vignetting to your images to create an authentic look. Not to mention that all images are saved in maximum resolution without any compressing or EFIX/geolocation data stripping.

An in-app purchase of $.99 will also allow you to swipe from a pure black and white shade to 256 shades between black and white.

The good news about this app is that there’s nothing similar out there on the app store as far as I’ve seen (and I love taking photos with my phone and using cool apps to do so). The other good news is that this app only costs $.99.

We are not really sure how this app falls short and I we have not encountered any glitches with it while using it.

Conclusion

If you need an app that will make it easy to take “scan” photos of documents in real time or you want to take dramatic black and white photos, then this app is a must-have. It is free and even without the in-app purchase of $.99 it is very valuable to most iOS users.

Evermusic is a free music app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It allows users to access their music from cloud storage locations such as DropBox, Box, OneDrive, and Google Drive.

Features

The free version of Evermusic has advertisements, limits cloud storage linking to only three accounts, can only be used to create up to three playlists, and limits the tracks in the player and any playlist to 30. Basically, the free version is a way to try the program out before upgrading to the pro version for $.99. The pro version also lets you download playlists from cloud locations so that they may be played without an internet connection.

This app supports all popular music file types such as mp3, aac, m4a, wav, aiff, and m4r. In addition to letting users access their cloud-stored music, this app basically as all of the regular music player features you’d expected such as the ability to play music through airplay, repeat and shuffle, manage, copy, move, rename, and transfer files between cloud locations, and search for songs in your library.

Conclusion

If you want to have access to a large database of music on your phone, without it having it take up space on your phone, then this app is perfect. Obviously you’d have to purchase the $.99 upgrade to the pro version, but it’s worth it. Just keep in mind that any music you access over the internet could rack up data on your phone bill so you’ll have to balance bandwidth on cloud music vs. space on your phone (from which music can be played without any internet connection).

Gameplay

In this educational game, children can play exploration mode, sound quiz, and association quiz to learn amore about animals. The exploration mode lets the user tap on any animal to hear the sound it makes, whereas the sound quiz works in reverse. Although the sound quiz mode is called “quiz” children aren’t actually punished for getting anything wrong, and there’s no tally held against them.

In association mode an animal is related to a characteristic item or part, which has to be tapped on.

Mission Accomplished

This game has very great graphics and a simple to use interface

Room to improve

Tappy Animals is very expensive for what it does. This app’s description includes “15 cute animals,” “50+ unique animal images,” “60+ unique association images,” and “50+ different animal sounds.” The question, however, is what is left after subtracting all of the cats, dogs, and elephants from this “features” list? For children, I believe just about nothing is left with this $4 app.

After all, do parents really need to purchase a $4 app for their kids to hear what sound an elephant makes, or for them to learn that dogs are associated with fire hydrants? They could just turn on the Discovery channel after all, and even that will be more beneficial and valuable.

Conclusion

Skip over this app in your search for educational games for children because it is not valuable at all.

Amazing Ninja Man is a game that was developed by Cartoonize.net. It is free and available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

*I just want to make a quick note that the graphical style of this app’s icon is misrepresentative of the graphical style that the game itself has. The title screen for example seems very pixelated. It’s not a matter of a “blocky” feeling. I’ve seen such styles look really great in retro games, but this one just doesn’t do it properly.

Gameplay

In Amazing Ninja you play as a ninja that jumps over building. You can either jump once and land, or jump once and jump one more time in the air. After a few buildings go by, they start to have corresponding buildings above them and the game begins to resemble Flappy Bird. Although single player can get very boring very quickly because the speed doesn’t increase and there’s no boosts or perks to use, this game does have a multiplayer mode.

In the multiplayer mode you can play with random people over the internet or with you friends. While playing you don’t actually see the other players and their progress in the level, but you do get to see how you compared against them at the end of the game.  Even the multiplayer mode gets a bit boring after a while. If this game had more to it in terms of difficulty or boosts it would be much more fun. Also as mentioned in the beginning, the cover screen and other parts of the game look a bit pixelated.

Conclusion

If you like puzzle and action games like Flappy Bird then you will most likely enjoy Amazing Ninja Man as well. However, you won’t enjoy this game for too long because it loses its appeal very quickly.
