digital scanner

There are some very good quality solutions currently on the market for desktop scanners, but what about one thatâ??s compatible with the Apple iPod?

There is a new device on the market called the Brookstone iCovert Scanner which works well with all of the different iPad models and generations.  If you want a portable solution then read my concise review below.

iPad Scanner Review

The first thing you will notice is how small the Brookstone scanner is compared to standard desktop scanners that are available to buy today. It is very easy to use and starting up is simple.  All you do is plug it into the wall, dock in your iPad, and then you can start scanning immediately using the free application software which comes in the box called iConvert.  This lets you scan efficiently, with full color images up to 300 dots per inch.

Portable and Small to Carry

This Brookstone iConvert scanner is very portable and easy to take in your bag.  This means you can scan documents on the move or when travelling with ease.  In terms of controls, the Brookstone scanner has a small button â?? press it once to turn the scanner on.  There is also a pair of plastic guides which help to make sure that the paper moves smoothly into the device.  Most of the controls though are accessed via the iPadâ??s display.

Intuitive and Easy to Use Interface Controls

The user interface is pretty straight forward, and scanning is done by pressing the â??scanâ? button.  Once you do this the document starts to pull through the tray â?? please note, you will need to manually feed more documents into the machine though as it can only take one at a time due to the small size of the device.  Once scanned, you will see the results displayed as an image on your iPad.  Itâ??s then up to you to save it, email it, upload it, or do whatever you want to do with the finished scan.

Calibration is Simple and Helps with Paper Jams

Additional features include the ability to “clean up” the scanner and calibrate the settings.  This is  necessary, especially if you are planning on using the Brookstone scanner on a regular basis.  Examples of when you might need to do this include if the scanner starts feeding paper in at an odd angle or you begin to experience paper jams.

What Paper Sizes Can You Scan?

In terms of the size of the documents you can scan with the Brookstone iConvert, you can go as small as a standard business card dimension, all the way up to a sheet of 8.5 inches by 11 inches paper â?? so should take care of most occasions when you need to digitally store and record a document as an image.

Where to Buy and the Cost

How much does it cost?  Well, you should be able to pick it up for less than one hundred and fifty dollars from the Brookstone online store as an exclusive.  Alternatively if you donâ??t wish to shop online you can pick one up in any one of their stores throughout the United States and North America.

Short Conclusion on the Brookstone iConvert

To conclude, I would not recommend the iConvert if you are looking to scan at very high resolutions, but for an affordable and portable scanner compatible with iPad it is certainly good enough to deliver what you will need whilst on the go.

Office War 2012

My day job is in an office building doing data entry for an internet company. Not very glamorous, but it pays the bills. Last year, Christmas time of 2011 to be precise, Cass, a coworker of mine, bought some toys for my manager and the three team leads.

These toys were meant to be fun and help spice up the boring day to day that working in an office can, and most often does, become. Little did she know how her thoughtful gifts were going to unleash a hell on earth for the Data Entry department.

Toys? Or WMDs?

These â??toysâ? werenâ??t just toys. Oh sure, you could probably find them on any toy store, or as I like to call them, Timmyâ??s First Gun Stores; but what toy isnâ??t a weapon in the wrong hands? Approximately 5â? in height, these weapons came cleverly disguised as cute little dogs. Cute and innocent enough, but these graven images of manâ??s best friend were built for a more dastardly purpose.

By loading a small foam ball into its mouth and gently squeezing, these â??dogsâ? became miniature artillery devices. I donâ??t remember who struck first, maybe it was Chris, the manager, in an attempt to establish his dominance over the team leads: Kandi, Corie, and Krystal. It doesnâ??t matter who fired the first shot anymore. The only thing that matters is that war broke out. The fighting was always gruesome with many innocent bystanders were falling prey to their relentless assaults and terrible aim. It didnâ??t matter that the fighting seemed to only break out in the afternoon just as quitting time rolled by on the clock, what mattered is that the fighting needed to be brought to an end. Each battle brought new victims: empty coffee mugs, a slinky collection, my sandwich! The death toll was nearing the dozens. Someone needed to bring the fighting to an end. It was time for a new power to step in and force the piece.

A New, Superior Foam Based Weapon

After I decided enough was enough, I took matters into my own hands. After work, I drove to my trusty neighborhood weapons dealer: Target. My purpose firm in mind, I stalked to the where the â??toysâ? were kept. So quick and fierce was my pace that after only one employee attempted asking me how he could be of assistance, that I coldly ignored, the rest of the red shirted employees ignored me and went about their business.

In the toy section, I quickly found the aisle I was looking for. The shelves were cluttered with rows of useless knock offs that felt cheap with a single glance. No, I didnâ??t need a piece of junk that would break after just a few uses. I needed a toy that would last, deal damage, and look cool doing it. I needed Nerf.

At the end of the aisle I saw it, my prize, my toy of peace. In a shining box of red and orange, and for less than $10, I had found my ticket to dominating over management and securing peace for those who yearned for it: the Nerf Maverick.

With a fast loading 6-bullet chamber, the Maverick was the perfect weapon for me.  It was small enough to hide in my desk, but large enough for me to grab easily to defend against a surprise attack. This was going to be sweet.

The Good, the Bad, and the Nerf

The next day, I smuggled in my gun under my coat and hid it in my desk drawer.  I waited. Oh the torment of waiting. But I would not be the instigator. I would not allow hast to unravel my plan for peace.

Minutes crept by like hours, and the fact that it was a Friday didnâ??t help speed things up either.  Finally though, my patience was rewarded.  Chris, whose desk was right next to mine, pulled out his inferior weapon and took aim at Krystal.

I pulled my golden and black Maverick out of my desk, cocked it and fired at my manager. He never saw the attack coming. The team leads looked at me in terror as I turned my weapon on them and opened fire. An instant, a glorious satisfying instant, the war had ended. All surrendered to my firepower and swore to keep the piece.

Peace?

Peace had come, but I would need to keep a vigilant watch to maintain it. I considered by looking at handgun safes to keep my precious Maverick in when not in use, but that would have added precious extra time that I knew I wouldnâ??t have to defend myself against an attack. But I couldnâ??t leave a weapon like this out in the open, so I kept it locked in my desk when I was out of the office, and unlocked my desk when I was there.

Witty Quotes

Generally you hear many words of criticisms about politics and law either on television or the Internet, but rarely do such remarks ever withstand the test of time. Mostly, they are simply passing statements that will be forgotten when the next â??hotâ? topic takes the limelight.

But on occasion, certain statements strike deep to the bone, and leave such a lasting scar, that the words are remembered well beyond the life of the author. These note worthy quotes, if understood within their context, often not only remark upon some person, but touch on serious issues of the time. They also often relate closely to serious issues that we deal with today.

So when trying to shape our future, itâ??s important to understand our past. And there is no better way to find the honest truth about history than to read the various criticisms of the time. Because the victors often write history, while everything else is swept off to the side and forgotten save by those who were in opposition to begin with. So without further ado, letâ??s hear from those who were critical of their time, so perhaps we can better understand our present political climates.

Translation apps

If you’re planning a trip to a foreign land – where people speak a foreign language – you will want to plan for some lost in translation moments.

Gaps in understanding caused by a language barrier can be funny . . . or they can get you turned around in a strange city, in a really scary way. Fortunately, you can take control of the situation with some very simple solutions. Here are five great translation apps for travelers:

Google Translate. This is a free app with the Google name on it. You’d probably think it doesn’t get much better than that, and you’d probably be right. Google Translate delivers accurate translations in sixty-three languages. Plus, it can handle voice input for seventeen languages and perform text to speech translations in twenty-four languages.

Word Lens. Imagine being able to aim your phone’s camera lens at a sign, snap a picture, and instantly receive a translation of the words on the sign. With Word Lens, you can do exactly that. It’s a novel idea that could come in handy in an endless variety of situations. Word Lens is compatible with English, French and Spanish.

Vocre. This app is perfect for when you need to have a one-on-one conversation with someone who speaks a foreign language, and you don’t have a translator. Simply put your phone in between you and the other person and tap the screen when it’s your turn to talk. Vocre will serve as the translator for both you and your conversation partner.

Jibbigo. Developed by Lonely Planet, a company famous for publishing high-quality travel guides since the 1970s, Jibbigo is a handy, off-line app that allows you to speak a word or phrase into your phone in order to get an immediate translation. The app even speaks the translation for you, so you don’t have to worry about bungling the pronunciation when you’re in a travel-related bind.

Language Guides by World Nomads. This is a super-simple app that basically acts as a storehouse for hundreds of common phrases in twenty-five different languages. The phrases are organized into categories – like directions, food, dates, numbers, and introductions – for easy reference. What’s more is that the basic app, containing over two-hundred phrases, is free . . . and the paid version (with over five-hundred phrases) will only set you back $1.99.

As you can see, there is no shortage of apps designed specifically for you, the language-handicapped traveler. Avoid many of the common bungles and pitfalls associated with being a tourist in a strange land by arming yourself with these five awesome translation apps.

HTC Headquarters

HTC Headquarters in Taoyuan City

With so much choice of high end mobile devices available it can be confusing to choose. Here is a look at a comparison between these two top Apple and HTC products.

Both products made a splash when they arrived. The iPhone particularly wowed its loyal customer base with the larger screen and same iconic look. Which comes out on top on design, display and functionality though? Letâ??s have a look.

Styles

The styles are very different indeed. Both share a solidity and nice look, but the iPhone is smaller, thinner and easier to operate in one hand. It perhaps has a bit more of a premium look, as you would expect with the Apple preoccupation with sex appeal in their products. The HTC is pretty massive. Despite its size it will certainly survive a drop better than the iPhone. The HTCâ??s polycarbonate unibody would do better on this score than the aluminum and glass iPhone.

Interactions

The iPhone buttons are more prominent and more responsive than the HTC One X. Neither is prone to accidental presses but usability score on this front goes to the iPhone.

Features

Both phones have the features you would expect, such as noise cancellation and a 3.5 mm earjack. The HTC has a better system for charging though. The HTC uses the, in my opinion more sensible microUSB port whereas Apple use their own technology. On design I would give the marks to the iPhone 5 on looks and the HTC on solidity.

Cameras

Both handsets feature an 8 megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, auto-zoom and focus and a flash. The HTC has a slightly superior front camera with 1.3 megapixels against the iPhoneâ??s 1.2.

Screens

On the display the two phones are again similarly impressive. They both sport super sharp images. The HTC ihas a 4.7 inch display against the iPhones 4 inch display. The iPhone has a more natural colour tone to their display, whilst the HTC colours are warmer. With both performing excellently outside the choice as to which has the better screen is really a personal preference.

So swiftly on to the crunch . . . My vote goes to the iPhone this time. They both do a great job, are both high end smartphones and are hard to separate on specs.  It is personal preference. The iPhone brand image just sways it for me and I give the iPhone 9/10 and the HTC 8.9/10.

Phil Turner has been nagged into checking out iPhone O2 contract deals to see how they compare with other iPhone deals. He is not impressed with O2â??s charges though.

App Reviews

When an app developer releases his app for the first time, thereâ??s two things he can do to increase downloads and exposure. He can either promote the app outside of the app market, or he could promote the app within the iOS app market.

A developer might promote his app on blogs, social accounts, or even app review sites such as AppReviews4u. This form of promotion reaches a wide audience outside of the app market. The other way to promote his apps would be by buying honest app reviews inside the iTunes app market. App reviews inside the app market have the potential to increase his app’s rank, as well as creating trust with other potential users.

Promoting Your App outside the App Market

If a developer promotes his apps online he will be able to reach a wide audience. Blog posts, YouTube videos, and app reviews are more likely to be shared via social media by visitors. But if the application doesn’t have a lot of reviews to back it up, not a lot of people will purchase or download it. Although reviews on the app market build trust with potential users, having no app reviews works in the opposite way. If your app has 0-10 reviews, then a potential user might get the wrong idea. They might think that no one uses your app for a reason.

Promoting Your App inside the App Market

If a developer were to buy honest app reviews from a site that specializes in connecting users and developers, he could increase his app’s exposure. Once the app developer pays for 30+ reviews, not only will 30 users play the game and leave their honest opinions, but those reviews will attract other users on the app market as well.

After an app gets a substantial amount of reviews, it will cause others to flock to the app, creating exponential growth. For that reason it’s a good idea to buy a handful of app reviews when an app is first released. That initial review head start can make the difference between an app that becomes popular, and an app that gets lost in the plethora of other ones released everyday.

Why App Developers Should Use Both Promotion Methods

Most apps either cost money to download, or they are free to use but make money off advertiments. So if a developer knows his app can make him money once he has enough users, it would make sense that he invests into getting those users.

For about $400, a developer could promote his apps, and even receive app reviews, on multiple blogs and app review sites. For about $400 more the app developer could receive 100 reviews on the app market.

With this much investment in getting the right exposure for his apps, a developer could expect tons of traffic and downloads. $800 may seem like a lot but itâ??s really nothing if done right. $800 of advertising the right way could pay back much more in the long run. In any case itâ??s a good idea to advertise your apps outside of the app market, and inside it by buying honest reviews.

If an app developer tried to promote his apps on a blog, that only had 1-2 reviews, they wouldnâ??t get downloaded. If an app developer didnâ??t promote his apps on blogs, but only bought paid reviews on the app market, he wouldnâ??t get anywhere either. Using a combination of both methods is the path to success.

Where Can Developers Buy App Reviews on the App Market?

App developers can buy paid reviews from real users at Bestreviewapp.com. The site is really simple to use: submit an app, wait for users to download it and review it, and then watch your exposure grow.

bestreviewapp.com

Best ReviewApp

App reviews get paid to download apps, use them, and then review them. So itâ??s a win-win for developers and users.

Unlike other illegitimate sites that harvest review accounts and leave only positive reviews, Best Review App cannot guarantee positive reviews. Since real users are leaving the feedback itâ??s up to the user what they really thought about the app at hand. This makes Best Review Appâ??s service even more valuable because they connect real users with app developers instead of just faking reviews.

Why itâ??s a Good Idea to Review Apps on the App Market

If you enjoy playing games or using apps on your iPhone then why not make some money from it? If the apps that you review are paid, you get reimbursed the full price of the app for leaving a review. You can also win extra money from Best Review App for reviewing apps.

Even if youâ??re a developer it would be a good idea to review apps because then you get a chance to learn from other developers, and get paid for it too.

Is Buying App Reviews Ethical?

Some developers may shy away from buying app reviews with the thought that itâ??s cheating. If the site that youâ??re using to buy the app reviews gives you positive app market reviews, then that is cheating and illegal. A developer canâ??t just buy fake positive app reviews from someone else. Itâ??s just not fair to all the other app developers.

What is ethical marketing?

What is ethical marketing?

Best Review App is just a place that connects developers and real users together in a healthy community. A developer is not guaranteed positive apps, rather heâ??s guaranteed that someone will download his apps, and leave honest feedback. All the reviews are honest and from real users.

Conclusion

With the right amount of knowledge/determination an app developer could get in the top rated apps in no time. Having a cool nifty app isnâ??t always enough to make its popularity skyrocket. Sometimes you need the right amount of marketing to compliment the great app that you’ve developed.

If youâ??re interested in good promotion tactics for your apps, then you might want to take a look at this blog.

Feel free to comment below regarding promotion techniques youâ??ve used, or any other sites that can help developers gain app exposure.

After years of dominating the smartphone market, Appleâ??s iPhone finally faces a legitimate challenger in the form of devices powered by Googleâ??s Android OS. With the launch of Android 4.0 â??Jellybeanâ?, Google can claim to have a mobile operating system that can rival and even outperform Appleâ??s iOS.

The one thing that always gave iOS the advantage over its competitors was the large number of apps available on the iTunes store. However, that is no longer the case. Once Google launched the revamped Play Store, it flooded the new Android app store with the very same apps that are available to iOS users. Moreover, since Android allows app developers to include advertising in their apps, many of the apps that have to be paid for in iOS are available for free on Android devices. Here are the top 6 free Android apps for music lovers.

Music Volume EQ

Most of the free media player apps for Android do not have an in-built equalizer. If they do have one, it is usually an extra feature that needs to be unlocked by buying the full version of the app. Not only is Music Volume EQ a free app, it works with most major Android media players (including Winamp) while packing bass boost and virtualizer effects.

SoundHound

We have all been in a situation where we like a song that we are listening to, but have no means to find out what the song title is or who the artist is. This is where SoundHound proves to a very valuable tool. The app listens to the song and goes online to find song details, including title, artist and album. Tourist Nasa Space Rides

When NASA was threatened with losing their budget a couple years ago, a team of former NASA executives saw a light bulb. They decided to supplement their income with a new business venture. For the paltry sum of $1.5 billion, they will take you bang, zoom, to the moon.

The business venture is called Golden Spike Co., and is made up of a former Apollo flight director, other space shuttle veterans, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who at his best, is a little spacey.

This Totally Makes Sense

Think about itâ??for a mere 1.5 billion dollars, you can buy yourself and a homey a ride on a spaceship, where you piss into a bag and eat dehydrated food with the texture of Styrofoamâ??you donâ??t even have to pass a background check! For days, youâ??ll soar up into space, and get a view of the planet that only a handful of other people have gotten. And if absolutely none of the millions of things that could go wrong go wrong, youâ??ll have a permanent conversation starter for the rest of your life.

Perfect Timing

The last time NASA took a trip to the moon was 40 years ago today. The space race in the 1960s was big news, but once we got there, and didnâ??t find gold, oil, or moon people, nobody seemed to care anymore. Even President Barack Obama was over the moon, when he cancelled the return trip.

Since then, there have been dozens of privately held space companies that have emerged to pick up where NASA left off. For a number of reasons, itâ??s unlikely that any of them will succeed. In the case of Golden Spike, itâ??s estimated that the first trip will take place by the end of the decade, and the first launch alone will cost between $7 and $8 billion dollars.

If youâ??ve got $1.5 billion to piss away on a vacation, why would bother with traditional things? When the Seven Wonders of the World leave you ho-humming, youâ??ve got to think bigger. I mean sure, you could do something boring like spend a month in the Maldives, relaxing on the beach. Or test your mettle by climbing Mount Everest. Or head to Rio for a nonstop party. Hell, you could do all three of those things, in style, and still have $1.4 billion dollars to bring clean drinking water to Africa, or pay teachers more.

But youâ??re probably right. It would be cooler to take a ride on a space ship.

People always assume that doctors, regardless of area or speciality, are highly paid individuals that live in mansions, drive luxury cars, and wear expensive clothing. Think again!

Although medicine is a very lucrative profession, there can be quite a huge income disparity between what different doctors earn. After years of intense study at medical school and years spent in residency, doctors are often burdened with hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans. The average medical student can come out with close to $300,000 in debt. That is a lot of money to spend on education, especially when you take into consideration that doctors like pediatricians and family practitioners often less than $100,000 a year.

Skyrocketing professional liability insurance and costs associated with managing a practice can also diminish a doctor’s salary. If you are considering a career in medicine, carefully weigh the pros and cons of different specialties you might find interesting. So who are the five highest paid doctors in the world? After researching different online surveys of various doctors’ salaries, here is a list of the five highest paid doctors in the world. Although the ranking will vary from survey to survey, these listed doctor specialties consistently came in the top five.

1). Orthopedic Surgeon – $315,000 – $519,000

Orthopedic Surgeons are highly training surgeons that perform operations involving the muscular and skeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons often own their own practices and are frequently employed in settings to treat sports-related injuries.

2). Cardiologist – $314,000 – $512,000

Cardiologists are specialists in treating diseases and disorders related to the human heart and cardiovascular system. They are employed by hospitals as well as private clinics. Often, cardiologists can specialize in other areas such as pediatric, invasive, geriatric and neonatal cardiology. Cardiologists also can work as interventionists, helping patients fight heart problems associated with obesity.

3). Radiologist – $315,000 – $507,000

Radiologists are doctors that often diagnose various conditions and diseases using a variety of imaging devices such as x-rays, cat scans, etc. These doctors are also frequently used in cancer treatment facilities to administer radiation therapy.

4). Urologist – $309,000 – $461,000

Urologists specialize in treating diseases and disorders related to the urinary organs. These specialists also help diagnose and treat diseases related to male and female infertility. Often, these doctors are employed in private settings.

5). Anesthesiologist – $309,000 – $362,000

Anesthesiologists are specialists that administer anesthesia and other pain management therapies to patients who are in the process of undergoing surgical treatment. These doctors become familiar with a wide variety of anesthetic treatments and are usually employed in hospital settings where surgical operations are performed.
