Galaxy on Fire 2 by FISHLABS entertainment has some of the most amazing graphics on a space shooter game that you will ever see.
You start off in this game waking up in the future. Here you must first mine ore to earn the right to pilot your own ship. Mining ore involves clinging on to an asteroid and keeping the centre dot in the middle of the circle. This is not as easy when you first start the game as you are only equipped with basic mining equipment. Each asteroid has a class, A-D, with class A being the best and most abundant in the particular element that you are looking for.
Galaxy on Fire 2 is a very complex game and provides hours of gameplay. To upgrade your ship you can earn credits by mining ore or by completing missions. To complete side missions you must enter the space station lounge at whatever station you are docked in. You then approach different customers to see what they have to offer. You can always trade with people in the space lounge too, be careful however that they do not rip you off. Check the stock price for the material and price that they are willing to trade with you.
The graphics are breathtaking and it almost feels like you are flying through space. There are beautiful supernovas, stars, planets, space debris and dust in your view as you fly from space station to space station.
This game I purchased, but is now free and includs add-on in-app purchases. There is such a lot to this game that even without in-app purchases it provides you with hours of entertainment. I bought one of the in-app purchases for a mission upgrade. I didn’t purchase credits as that takes away the challenge to me as half the fun is building up credits through hard work and slowly upgrading ships.
There are three other alien breeds/factions which you can either choose to appease to keep as friends or to attack to turn into your enemy. You can even turn pirate in the game too and start attacking cargo ships from a particular faction. You will need good ship to pull this off though, as once a faction has had enough of you they will attack you on sight.
There are portal gates you can use in the game that send you from one star system to another and you can track your position on the in-built map. It can take a while to travel to distant star systems this way, but later in the game you will build a hyperdrive, allowing you to reach anywhere fast.
The dialogue is deliberately corny and tongue in cheek, with the main character sounding more like a cocktail bartender than a gritty space fighter. It uses what I call ‘lounge humour’ which is not really hilarious but makes it fun. Kind of like ‘lounge music’ where the music won’t knock you out but it’s there to entertain just the same.
The idea is to upgrade your ship and equipment. You can either opt to get a ship with a large cargo and focus on cargo carrying missions, or you can go for fighter ships to do battle missions. I prefer to upgrade to a fighter ship with a medium-sized cargo hold. Your character’s name is Keith T. Maxwell.
There is a vortex in the game with a particularly nasty and high-tech alien race in it which you must battle with and defeat. You can choose to do a main mission or to go off on your own and complete side missions.
Upgrading your ship is one of the most fun parts of the game. You can upgrade weapons, for which there are many different types to choose from, purchase cloaking devices, armour and much more using your credits.
Mission Accomplished
The graphics are literally amazing and you get many hours of play, especially if you occasionally complete the side missions too. The game is solid and has rarely crashed on me and there are many missions contained within the game.
Room to improve
There is not a lot to improve upon in this game. However, one suggested improvement might be to add in distress signals, such as those seen on Star Trek, to take the character out of game play for a while to explore off-beat races and planets.
Conclusion
In all this is one of the best space shooter games out there for iOS devices. It is available now as a universal app and will provide hours of entertainment.
CSR Racing is a drag racing game created by NaturalMotion. It works on the iPhone and iPad.
The objective of this game is to win races by switching gears at the right time. You only get a side view of your car during races and you have control over shifting gears and turning on Nitro. Basically when your MPH reaches a certain speed you press the gear up button. The faster you press it when prompted the more boost you will get.
When youâ??re not racing you can do a couple of things such as buying cars, upgrading, and customizing. You can upgrade any part of your car from transmission, tires, nitro and more. Customization allows you to paint your car or add a certain design. Customizations and upgrades can be purchased with silver points.
You also have access to a â??mechanicâ? who will fine tune your car for a limited number of races. Mechanics are paid through gold coins which are slowly earned by leveling up or bought as in app purchases. Gold coins can also be used to buy certain cars.
Once youâ??ve selected your car you can go to the city map. There are 5 different race crews in the city and to progress throughout the game you have to beat each race crew. After beating four crew members you can race the boss. If you win the boss race you will advance to the next crew.
You canâ??t always race crew members in this game. If you try racing a crew member when you first play this game you will fail.
Instead you will have to race in regulation races, ladder races, or daily battles to gain enough points to upgrade your car. If you donâ??t upgrade your car you wonâ??t be able to win against the first crew member.
Regulation races are where you race your own car and you set the difficulty higher for bigger prices. Ladder races are races against progressively tougher opponents for increasing prizes. Daily Battles provide high rewards in special loan cars. You can only race three Daily Battle races a day.
The downside to this game is that every race sucks up a little gas. Once you get an empty tank you will get a refill for free. The next time your tank gets empty you can either wait in game for a couple of minutes for it to refuel, you can share the game on Facebook for more fuel , or you can buy in game gold points to purchase fuel.
The gas limitation is not going to go well with most people looking for casual gameplay.
Mission Accomplished
The graphics are really great and there are more than enough cars and upgrades. The shifting gears mechanism is flawless and so is the Nitro boost.
Room to improve
Buying in game points to purchase fuel gets really old after a while. The races themselves donâ??t bring new features or challenges. Basically you keep completing Ladder and Regulation races to gain points, to upgrade your car, to beat crews, to upgrade your car, and so forth. I would say 40% of your time is spent drag racing and 60% is spent buying upgrades, choosing races, or waiting for your gas to refuel.
Conclusion
If youâ??re into strategic drag racing games then CSR Racing is for you. You have to think ahead before making purchases or buying upgrades. If you are wise in your gameplay you might not even have to make any in app purchases.
But for the average Joe it will become really difficult to continue playing without buying gold points. Iâ??m sure some people out there might like this game but it stopped entertaining me after half an hour. If anything give this app a quick try because the graphics are captivating and you might like it.

In 1935, Gene Sarazen made the â??shot heard round the worldâ? at the Augusta National Invitational tournament to get a double eagle and secure a playoff against Craig Wood, which he would win the next day. It was just the second tournament of its kind, and kicked off a long history of special shots at the annual tournament in Augusta, which is today known as the Masters. Here are some of the most difficult shots made throughout the years.
Louis Oosthuizen 2012 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4hZPPN3RCg
Louis Oosthuizen made history at the 2012 Masters. He didnâ??t do this by winning the Green Jacket, which was later taken by Bubba Watson (more on that later). He made history by performing his own version of Sarazenâ??s albatross, with a 260-yard shot on the second hole at Augusta. This is the first time in Masters history that any golfer had scored a double eagle on this hole.
Bubba Watson 2012 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVzetA-_Ax8
The reason why Oosthuizen didnâ??t walk away with the Green Jacket in 2012 is because of Bubba Watson, and especially one incredible shot. With the players still tied at the 10th hole, they both hit poor first shots. Watsonâ??s went far into the rough, and no one could have predicted what would happen next. Deep in the pine straw, Watson hooked the shot around the pine trees and the ball landed on the green and stopped about 10 feet away from the hole.
Phil Mickelson 2010 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nJfhUGM4Yc
Phil Mickelson is one of the few golfers who would even attempt such a shot, in the pines, behind a tree. But attempt it he did, and he hit the ball to within four feet of the hole. He missed the following put, but it did not matter. That was one incredible shot.
Jack Nicklaus 1986 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4esCW5hG2M
His 40 foot putt in 1975 is still talked about today, but just misses out on this list, for the simple reason that you cannot ignore Nicklausâ?? 1986 Masters shot on the 16th, leading to a birdie. He had been trailing Seve Ballesteros up until this point, but this near hole-in-one really changed everything, helping Nicklaus earn his sixth Masters title, becoming the oldest man to do so.
Larry Mize 1987 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvQa4fbETKU
When the 1987 Masters went into sudden death, everyone was certain that Greg Norman had it in the bag. However, Larry Mize changed things completely when he made a 140-foot chip-in to all but guarantee the Green Jacket. Norman could not respond, and Mize was crowned the winner.
Tiger Woods 2005 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nJfhUGM4Yc
One of the best shots in golf history, Tiger Woodsâ?? chip from the edge of the green is definitely the greatest Masters moment of all time. He hit the ball wit the exact right amount of spin to send it towards the hole, pausing for what seemed like forever before eventually dropping in. Only Tiger Woods could ever have made such a shot.

As our oil reserves are getting fewer and fewer and also the health of our planet is becoming increasingly more important, people are looking to turn to different alternative fuels supplies in order to reduce our carbon footprint and also reliance on fossil fuels.
More and more money is being spent on researching technology which will help alternative power sources become more viable for the future. As the technology improves and also peopleâ??s awareness grows bigger, these alternatives become more financially viable and also popular with people around the world.
- Hydro Electric
- Wind Farms
- Solar Power
- Hydrogen Power
A lot of the technology is very specific in where it is suitable though and can also take quite a large investment. But if you do have the space, are in the right location and also have the money to invest, then investing in alternative power solution is definitely worth it.
Hydro Electric Power
Not everyone has a large river on their property that they can dam up and make a hydro electric power station, so this is one which is best left to the worldâ??s governments who can afford such things. There is an environmental cost to making one of these as well as a very large amount of concrete has to be used and also a large area of water will become flooded. This leaves plants and wildlife forced from their habitat throwing the local environment out of balance. There are areas where this is an excellent choice though, and the Hoover Dam in the USA is a good example of this.
Wind Farms
Wind farms are also a great alternative way of producing power and are a lot cheaper than building a hydro electric dam. This is a very clean way of producing power although just like with making a dam, there is an impact on the environment. A wind farm is basically a big windmill, the wind pushes the blades around, and this in turn makes the motor go round generating electricity. To make these efficient though the blades of the windmill need to be quite large and this means the overall size of the wind turbine is quite big. As you will need to have lots of turbines in order to generate sufficient amounts of electricity, this can leave quite an eyesore on the landscape. Not only can it look very unattractive, but the sound of all of the blades turning round can make a lot of noise pollution as well. One answer is to put the turbines off the coast out at sea, although this is even more costly and still ends up spoiling someoneâ??s views!
Solar Power

Image by now picnic via flickr
A very efficient and relatively cheap alternative power source is solar power. The technology has been around for quite a while, over 50 years, but it is only with technology increasing that the solar panel has become a lot more efficient. For this to be a suitable power source though you do need to live in an area which has a lot of sunlight, there are also various different types of systems that you can install so you will need to speak to experts before investing in this technology and going out and buying yourself some cheap solar panels. You can pretty much hide the solar panels on the roof of your house, and there is no noise pollution either. Depending on the type of system that you invest in and the amount of energy you can produce, you can not only cater for all of your power needs but actually sell your surplus power to the utility companies and make money as well. You may even be lucky enough to get a grant to help subsidize the cost of installing a solar power system in your home or workplace.
Hydrogen Power
Hydrogen power is like the Holy Grail of the alternative power sources. It is almost within our grasp at present and some vehicle manufacturers have produced working hydrogen machines. The city of Basel in Switzerland has, for some number of years, had Hydrogen powered street sweeper cleaning the roads. Hydrogen is a clean and reliable power source with an abundance of availability. The one downside though is that the cost of the current technology makes it prohibitive. Technology changes at a very fast pace though, just look at computers 20 years ago, your average wrist watch today has more computing power! Soon the price of the technology will come down, and we will make a huge advancement towards removing our reliability from fossil fuels and making our planet much cleaner in the process.

If youâ??re anything like the majority of Americans, you barely have time to blink at the end of each day- much less find time to go to the gym. But if your fitness is important to you (and it should be), then you have to find a way to fit it into your busy schedule. These three ISO apps can help you reach your fitness goals without traveling to the gym.
Bonus: Theyâ??re also much cheaper!
Fitness Buddy
Fitness Buddy is one of the best all-around strength exercise apps. The app costs just 99 cents, and it offers a comprehensive exercise plan that you can follow to see visible results.
The app features 1,700 exercises with 1,000 photos and videos. You can choose to exercise by muscle group, or choose one of the 45 full-length workouts. You can also listen to music while you complete the exercises.
Fitness Buddy is not only a home personal trainer, but it can also work with gym equipment as well. Many times fitness enthusiasts get stuck at the gym repeating the same set of exercises, which can reduce workout effectiveness over time. Fitness Buddy keeps things fresh by continually offering new choices.
Each exercise shows the moves with photos or with a video so you can make sure you are doing them right. The app provides an area to input your body weight, exercise weights, and how many reps you did of each exercise. The app will then keep track of your progress and blood pressure.
Fitness Builder
Cost: $9.99
Fitness Builder is expensive, but it offers the most. The app contains over 200 exercise plans. The app uses smart programming to determine which exercise plans will work best with your current fitness level. The app also has photos and video of all exercises to check your form. The app also allows several different exercise tracking systems and a variety of calculations. You can even take the app a step further and pay $4.99 per month to obtain even more content.
Gorilla Workout
Gorilla Workout is just 99 cents, but the app has it all. The app includes over 175 workouts with over 40 exercise moves. The app includes video and text descriptions of all workouts so you can make sure youâ??re doing it right.
The app also includes 4 different difficulty levels so you can keep using the app once you start improving. All Gorilla Workouts are based on circuit training, which makes them fun and easy to use. You can also choose between body-weight workouts or signature workouts, such as the option to try for 100 pushups in a single session.
If you are going to choose a virtual trainer for your ISO device, keep these tips in mind:
- Make sure the app has videos and photos of each exercise to reduce injuries.
- If you like music, try to choose an app that will allow you to listen to your favorite tunes
- Look for audio cues that will help you know how many reps to do and when to quit
- Varied workout plans
If you keep these tips in mind, youâ??re sure to find an app that will provide lasting benefit.

Since the first Academy Award ceremony held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel many decades ago, numerous films have been celebrated for their masterful moviemaking techniques and exquisite performance. Here is a checklist of Oscar-winning movies that have stood the test of time and are worthy to be watched many times. If you are a movie lover looking forward to enjoying some of the best films in the history of cinema without stepping outside of your home, this list is for you.
The Kingâ??s Speech (2010)
Imagine a two-hour movie about a guy with serious speech impediment visiting a therapist in order to make a speech in public â?? no action, vampires, blood or nudity. You may wonder why anyone wants to watch it, but The Kingâ??s Speech, with an impressive cast and a beautifully written screenplay of David Seidler, not only found an audience â?? it won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2010.
This British historical drama directed by Tom Hooper tells the motivational story of King George VI (Colin Firth) who overcomes his stammer with the help of the Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Firth simply mesmerized the audiences with his supreme acting skills by bringing to life the historical figure whose most important speech may decide the rise and fall of an empire.
Watching the film is an absolute pleasure. Impeccable costumes and sumptuous sets complement the story, creating a true sense of history. You will also be astonished by the actorsâ?? craftsmanship; Colin Firthâ??s warm and sympathetic performance as Bertie will continue touching the soul of everyone who has watched this masterpiece.
The Artist (2011)
The advent of talkies was one of the most significant developments in the history of cinema. While giving films a completely new perspective, the introduction of sound also effectively ended the careers of many of the original movie stars, as depicted in films like Sunset Blvd. Directed by Michel Hazanavicius, the film brings the audiences back to the 1920s Hollywood and tells the story of a silent film star and a rising young actress. It not only made the actor Jean Dujardin win numerous awards for his lead role, but won the most coveted Best Picture in the 84th Academy Awards.
The striking thing about The Artist is that it lovingly pays homage to the pre-sound cinema by being a silent film â?? at least a silent film for the first half of the story. This is a contemporary classic suitable for those with retro film nostalgia. If you would like to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon with a film without frequent action sequences or complicated storylines, this black-and-white romantic comedy is perfect for you.
Life of Pi (2012)
Nominated for 11 Oscars and winning the Best Director and Cinematography, Life of Pi was one of best films in 2012. Director Ang Lee has shown his unsurpassable cinema mastery by taking this seemingly impossible task â?? making a film with water, kids, animals and 3D, all of which are believed to be the taboos in the filmmaking business.
Based on Yann Martelâ??s best-selling novel with the same name, this shipwreck story discusses the struggle between the divine and brute parts in humanity. After losing all his family in a shipwreck, the boy Pi survives in a life boat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Caught in the middle of the ocean, the two start a seven-month odyssey during which intelligence and courage are called for to fight against the natural environment. At the same time, humanity has been tested.
Audiences will not only enjoy the engaging story and its philosophical depth but will be astonished by the visual mastery as well. Whether watching it alone or with your family, you will find this cinematographic epic touching your soul long after the film ends.
Les Misérables (2012)
This is a good time to revisit Victor Hugoâ??s historical classic. After numerous adaptations in cinema, radio, TV miniseries and musical, Tom Hooperâ??s reinterpretation of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönbergâ??s musical attempted to adapt one of the greatest epics to the contemporary screen. Set in the backdrop of the political turmoil during the French Revolution, the film follows the former convict Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) and the duty-driven lawman Javert (Russel Crowe), both of which suffer from the conflict between their civil duties and moral sensibilities.
Despite the lack of depth compared with the original story which may due to time limitation, the picture is full of fine performances, especially Anne Hathawayâ??s single-take â??I Dreamed A Dreamâ? song (it is every bit as terrific as you can imagine). If you are living in an area surrounded by natural environments you can even enjoy the beauties of nature in your garden while listening to the soundtrack from the film.
Amour (2012)
Another sure-to-be-talked-about film in the 85th Academy Awards is the Austrian filmmaker Michael Hanekeâ??s Amour, which also won the Palme dâ??Or in the Cannes Film Festival, following the directorâ??s triumph in 2009 with The White Ribbon. Starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva, the film features an elderly couple, both of whom are retired music teachers in their 80s and struggling to cope with a series of effects of aging and dementia.
It is a â??moving, terrifying and uncompromising drama of extraordinary intimacy and intelligenceâ?, as The Guardian puts it. The film explores the question of what will survive of us when our lives fade away, and what the word â??loveâ? means.
Yuan Liu is a freelancer who believes that the development of modern society should comply with nature, a good example of which is Stocklandâ??s Selandra Rise community in Melbourne.

Just about any piece of robotics technology utilises some variant of an encoder.
Everything from the mouse that you use on your computer to the equipment and technology that is implemented on a production assembly line contain some form or another of an encoder. Â One of the most important functions that the encoder provides is a sort of reference of measurement for the internal mechanisms of a device to gauge their progress.
Some of the more standard types of encoders that you will encounter throughout industrial services include encoders that are known as absolute and incremental. Optical, cylindrical, linear scale and even rotary are all different types of words that are used to describe encoders. While encoders can be made simply from home for educational purposes, the implication of them into the industrial arena has allowed us to make the most of robotics and automated industry.
From Simple to Complex
An example of this is the mouse of your computer which uses an optical encoder that incorporates two sensors to measure the distance the mouse is moved. These gauge the x and y-axis and then signal this information through so that you see your pointer move on the screen. The digital information that is sent is the product of the sensorâ??s capacity to measure light or dark on a wheel that is rotated.
The wheel has a several â??spokesâ?? that are black and as well as solid white spaces between them. The number of spokes is going to provide the divisions necessary to signal to the sensors a unit of measure. When viewing just the wheel it appears to be more of a pattern for an optical illusion than something that is able to provide much needed information for mechanics.
Up a Level
When you are beginning to step up or increase the complexity and accuracy of the processes for which you need an encoder there are other types beyond the optical encoder. When you are applying the encoder to a closed loop system for the purpose of position or velocity you can employ an absolute linear encoder that is cylindrical. This type of encoder system is commonly used whenever you are dealing with any sort of hydraulic system. There is certainly a decrease in encoder simplicity, but the difference allows you an increase in accuracy and a thorough improvement on system tolerance.
Use Rotary for Multiple Outputs
The absolute rotary encoder is perhaps one of the most accurate and efficient means of being able to measure distance and adequately determine the specific position or location of an element. The accuracy is derived from the completely integrated manner in which this encoder provides feedback.
The result is an encoder that provides very low system error and has a quick start up time whenever process has begun. Absolute rotary encoderâ??s are ideal when you have to employ several different outputs. The information that the encoder is able to provide can easily be transported to several different system protocols. The varying output options are one of the stellar components of employing an absolute encoder into your system.
Test Often
Despite what type of encoder you are utilising there is much to be said about implementing a test rig. A test rig is going to give you the obvious capabilities to make sure that your encoder is calibrated properly and running smoothly. Even the slightest error in alignment quickly grows to a large scale position differentiation. The simple fact that the difference quotient magnifies exponentially upon the slightest deviation requires proper testing. Obviously if the encoders are out of place in your computerâ??s mouse then it is not near the dilemma as that of a faulty encoder in a construction crane or on an assembly line.
Ian Appleton is a writer who understands the power that encoders have in everyday items such as the mouse and monitor. He recommends approaching a company like Go Tronic LTD if you want to test or repair these products.

The new and innovative pen mouse hit the retail shelves in January 2013. It is the brainchild of a company aptly called, Genius. Unlike previous mouse incarnations, this very different mouse uses the guise of a fountain pen design, to channel the functions of a regular mouse.
The Look and Feel
The pen mouse looks and feels like an ordinary pen. It’s shaped like a pen and operates in much the same way as a pen. Genius has even gone so far as to design the mouse to look like a specific type of pen â?? a fountain pen. These types of pens are usually fancier and much thicker than regular pens. Thus adding to the overall high-end feel to the design.
The pen mouse is sleek and lightweight. It’s extremely easy to hold and the thickness allows for a nice strong grip. Overall this pen mouse is more like a PC pointer or stylus. It bears little, if no resemblance to the traditional mouse.
How it Works
This crazy new gadget works on almost any surface. This is obviously a massive advantage when travelling and being without access to flat surfaces â?? something required by the majority of computer mice.
It is necessary to pick up the pen mouse after each use, however this small negative is easily outweighed by the ease of transportation factor. In addition, the time it takes to perform this extra action is so small that the majority of users may not even notice it.
Also, the fact that this gadget can be used in the same manner as a pen or pencil lends itself greatly to the graphic design industry. Sketching using a mouse or touchpad can be a challenge for designers. The pen mouse is well-designed to alleviate this problem.
The Functions and Features
As indicated earlier, the pen mouse resembles a luxurious fountain pen. However, it is much lighter than a normal fountain pen and is probably a lot easier to grip. This feature is of great benefit to those suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. The design of the pen mouse eliminates excessive wrist usage, as it requires the user to hold the pen at a specific angle.
The button for operating right-click, left-click and scrolling functions is located at the tip of the pen mouse. To right click just press down at the bottom end of the button. To scroll depress the top edge of the same button. And to left click, it’s necessary to press down lightly on the tip of the pen mouse. All three functions take a little getting used to, but it becomes second nature once you get going.
The Specifications
The pen mouse is wireless and operates using one triple A battery. It comes with a nano-USB receiver, which facilitates the wireless capability. It has an automatic shut-off features that is activated after thirty seconds of inactivity. A great power-saving feature.
The pen mouse operates at 2.4 GHz with a tracking resolution of 1200 dpi. The resolution can be adjusted downwards to 400 dpi or 800 dpi for slower cursor movement speed.
All in all the pen mouse can be a great addition to a user’s collection of computer peripherals. It can be used in conjunction with a traditional mouse or as a more permanent substitute. It all depends on your specific needs.
