Educational Apps

Smartphones have become integral parts of our daily lives without which there would be immense confusion.

Not only do these gadgets make it possible to keep in touch through diverse methods but also make life easier through impeccable problem solving and life changing apps. For those students with Iphones, they understand that there are applications which come in handy enabling them to be more organized in the busy college life.

They even function better than personal assistants. According to a study contacted by Ball State in the year 2010, it was evident that approximately 99.8 % of students owned mobile phones. It is with this realization that more and more applications are being developed. Smartphone heavyweights Apple reported in January that there are more than 20,000 apps which have been developed purposely for education.

The top best 5 Iphone apps for students is a just an icing on the cake on the thousands of applications available for students. With an ever increasing demand for smartphones and change in technology, the list of top 5 Iphone apps for students will keep changing. However, these applications will keep assisting students in: Managing their time, organizing their notes and balancing their bills

iStudiez Pro

Acting as a digital hub in a student’s academic life, this is an imperative application for those students who are attempting to effectively manage their full schedules. This app has five core areas which enables the student to plan on study sessions, prioritize on assignments depending on their importance among other incredible functions. In addition, it can also track the student’s grades and GPA hence enabling the student to monitor academic progress.

This Yoga HD version is the fully paid version of ARAWELLA’s excellent suite of yoga pose base and program based apps. It simply has everything you need to become immersed in becoming healthy and fit with a balanced mind through practising yoga.

The Yoga free apps from ARAWELLA are great. However, if you buy the fully paid version you will be in for a surprise, as there is a lot to this app. If you are thinking of practising yoga or increasing your skills in yoga, I can tell you now that this app is the only app you’ll ever need.

The colour scheme to the graphics in the app have been very well thought out. The developer has used a blend of pink, blues and purples to produce the soothing graphics that you notice upon opening up the app. Exercises in the pose base come with videos, pictures, instruction and a muscle group diagram to help you recognise which muscles are brought into play with each pose. There are also extra poses in addition to the ones you will find in Yoga Free.

The main screen is very clearly laid out with options to enter the pose base, or programs as well as accessing the calendar and options menus.

The calendar is really handy, not just for planning your next yoga workout, but also in tracking your progress. Each completed workout day will show up as a yellow flower and if you click on this flower your chosen difficulty level, start time and the duration of the workout are shown. At the bottom of the calendar you’ll notice an inspirational quote appears, such as ‘Breathe deeply and no one can put you in a cage.’

When you go into the ‘My Programs’ option there are ‘Quick Recipes’ with ready-made routines for you to get going as quickly as possible. There is an added surprise when you click on ‘Quick Recipes’ as you will see a whole host of different routines. So many routines in fact that you have to scroll the screen along to view them all. What’s neat is that each routine is neatly lined up in three different skill level categories, ‘Beginner’, ‘Intermediate’, ‘advanced’ and ‘guru’ levels.

There is in-app music or you can even use your own music from your personal playlists.

My personal preferred workout is the ‘Shakti Yoga Stretching’ routine as my flexibility is terrible. In fact, if I jumped straight into the ‘guru’ section I’d probably end up in hospital. So having stretching exercises at different levels will really help me gain some much needed subtleness and flexibility. When I went through this stretching routine I was surprised at how much concentration I needed to have and the fact that it was far from easy for me. A real challenge. I have only previously been used to using weights and aerobic exercises.

As well as viewing routines by level, you can also view routines that align to your goal. So when I clicked upon goal, I immediately saw goals that included ‘Balance’, ‘Flexibility’, ‘Strong back’, ‘Joint warm-up’, ‘Breathing exercises’, ‘Fitness’ and also ‘De-stress’ routines.

These routines are enough to keep me going for a long time yet. If you find yourself wanting even more exercises you can upgrade to ‘Premium’ pro-level, which will give you even more routines and poses. When you upgrade to pro-level, which is not expensive, you get a yoga magazine with fascinating articles, where you also can add custom poses and get more in-app music options. There is no pressure to upgrade to the premium version, as it’s entirely optional and if you decide not to there is still all you’ll ever need in this app. It is a comprehensive app to say the least.

There is even a virtual personal yoga trainer at hand in this app, where you enter your personal parameters, such as your age, weight, goal, level and preferred routine duration. When you click the ‘Find Program’ button a routine is automatically generated for you. What amazed me is that my age and weight automatically showed up ?! This freaked me out as the app must somehow be interacting with other apps where I have inputted my weight and age. How the programmers did this I don’t know, but it is impressive.

‘Fast Mode’ is a really handy option, as in this mode you can create your very own personally made yoga program. Here you just input your program’s name and choose poses from the pose base. This is really handy if you really get into yoga and want to concentrate on specific poses.

So, if you’ve never done yoga before, what are the benefits of yoga? There are many. Too many to list in fact, but here are just a few of the benefits in following a regular yoga routine with All-in Yoga . . .

1) Reduced blood pressure

2) Improved circulation

3) A stronger immune system

4) A more efficient metabolism

5) Improved posture

6) Keeps your weight in check

7) Improved posture and core strength

8) Reduces cholesterol

9) Better muscle tone

10) Stress reduction

In fact, the list goes on and on. If you want to look at a full list of 77 benefits of yoga, you can.

So, in a nutshell, I’d have to say that this app is now one of my favourite fitness apps of all time. Not only is it comprehensive, it is an easy to use program which you can download and start following straight away. The app teaches you the correct movements and has routines for beginners right up to ‘guru’ level. So whether you are a complete beginner who has never done yoga in their life, like me, or an experienced yoga fan, this is the app for you. The price of the app isn’t much and it’s worth investing in your body. Many people invest in their car or wide screen TVs etc. but neglect their body.

Increase your body’s health and vitality to its full potential with ‘All-in YOGA HD: 300 Poses & Yoga Classes’. The app is up at a knock down price of under $1. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

Hi, Kevin here with an app review for All-in YOGA HD: 300 Poses & Yoga Classes by the ARAWELLA CORPORATION.

This app is all you will ever need, full stop, if you are thinking about practising yoga. This app is jam-packed with functionality and features, as you’ll see.

OPEN UP APP

Here we are on the main screen of All-in Yoga and what strikes me is the well thought out colour scheme here and also the very easy to navigate set up of the main screen too.

We have ‘My Programs’ to search for routines or make up your own, a pose base, calendar, together with options and more.

We’ll first look at the ‘Pose Base’ . . .

POSE BASE

As you can see, there is a wealth of different poses to choose from here. There are extra poses when compared to Yoga FREE including over 30 breathing exercises.

BACK TO MAIN SCREEN – MY PROGRAMS

In ‘My Programs’ you will really be in for a treat. There are three categories contained within ‘My Programs’ – ‘Quick Recipe’, ‘Personal Yoga Teacher’ and Fast Mode. You can also view your favourite ready-made routines and also any self-made routines that you have made up.

QUICK RECIPE

‘Quick Recipe’ is all about selecting ready made routines where you can just click and go. Here you can see that there is a wealth of different routines to choose from.

(Pause)

SCROLL ACROSS TO SHOW ROUTINES

You can choose between viewing the routines by level, your goal or premium routines which we’ll talk about later in this review. There are currently over 40 pre-made routines to choose from.

CLICK ON LEVEL, GOAL & PREMIUM

BACK TO MAIN MENU – CALENDAR

In the calendar we can see a  yellow flower which is a workout I’ve completed previously.

CLICK ON FLOWER

I can view my program’s name, level, start time and the duration. What’s neat about this calendar is that an inspirational quote pops up below the calendar every time you open up the calendar.

BACK TO MAIN MENU – PREMIUM

We’ll just talk about the premium upgrade option here. First of all, this app is comprehensive. Everything you could possibly need is in this app believe me. You don’t have to purchase upgrades to make the app complete. The option that this app does give you however is a premium upgrade if you get to an advanced level and get deeply into yoga and wish to have pro options.

There are extra programs if you upgrade to premium, which is on top of the huge selection that there is already, more music options and the ability to add custom poses, as well as a yoga magazine.

BACK TO MAIN SCREEN – MAGAZINE

Contained within the magazine are many useful articles. The big plus to upgrading to premium is the ability to add your own poses to the pose database which makes the whole app almost entirely customisable.

MY PROGRAMS – QUICK RECIPES – SHAKTI YOGA STRETCHING ROUTINE

I’ll start a routine here so that you can get an idea of what following a set made routine will be like.

(Pause)

CONTINUE ROUTINE

There is live support in the app for free if you have any questions. You can even send your self-made poses or routines to your friend’s device in the premium upgrade. You can download yoga content separately through iTunes to the app. You can even edit the ready-made routines within All-in Yoga.

INFO SCREEN ON EDITING

There are so many benefits to following a yoga routine, such as reduced blood pressure, reduced stress levels as well as an improved metabolism and immune system.

FREESTYLE

Personally, my stretching abilities are really poor, so I’m interested primarily in the stretching based poses and routines which will really help me.

In conclusion, I was really impressed with the massive amount of extra functions, routines and programs within the paid version of ARAWELLA’s suite of yoga apps. For such a small price you really do get everything you will ever need for practicing yoga. You can download Yoga Free to get a taster for this app, but again, I’d highly recommend the very fairly priced paid version.

If you took yoga classes, just think of the travelling time to the classes you’d have to put in, petrol costs, and also the cost of each session. In fact, if you attended a yoga class, I wouldn’t mind betting that you’d be spending 5 times the price of this app just for one yoga session.

So give this app a go if you are serious about improving your health as it’s one of the most impressive apps out there for exercising.

That’s all from me reviewing ‘All-in YOGA: 300 Poses & Yoga Classes’ by the ARAWELLA CORPORATION. Thank you for watching.

Apple as a company has been the leader in cell phone sales for quite some time now. You don’t lead sales and reviews by creating a bad product.

The Apple Iphones are an amazing machine and that’s the reason why they have lead the charts with reviews and sales. The newest Iphone is the 4S series that stands for Siri.

The Iphone 4S has the software of itunes built into the cell phone itself. So the common struggle of getting your music from your computer to your phone is now over. You basically don’t need a computer anymore to get all the music on your phone. You can pretty much call the phone an MP3 player too. It does all the same functions an mp3 player does and more.

If your looking for a mp3 player and possibly a new phone in the near future, it only makes sense to buy the Iphone 4s. It is mp3 ready, and gives you the ease to download songs straight to the device instead of having to sync up with your computer for transfer. With the phone service or WiFi, a person can download music straight to the device.

Think of the Iphone as a computer pretty much. It will do almost anything a computer could do unless your a super geek into powerful gaming or something. The ease of getting the music is basically at your finger tips. With a tap of a button you can be on the itunes homepage searching music and artists. Plus Itunes has a free music section that really interests me. It consists of artists giving away free music for the fact of getting more exposure.

If you want something easy that is never going to fail as far as music and media, then the Iphone 4S is your device. I dare you to try and slow down the device. I have done everything I can think to slow it down and have failed at the destruction. I love this device and it is still blowing my mind away as of today. Coming from a technology geek that should mean something.

When signing up for a new contract with a cell phone provider, it will range between $100-$200. The sales are going on right now with the fact of the Iphone 5 surfacing so go get one as soon as possible. This isn’t a sales pitch, but instead a friend to friend helpful tip.

Music is Chris’s obsession and getting him to give it up would cause crazy chaos. Check out more articles by him and learn a lot of cool stuff. He is taking music lessons at http://takelessons.com/. He finds that learning new instruments has helped to release a lot of anxiety out of his daily worries. It is not tough to roughly learn how to play an instrument online.

In this interview we will go head first into the piracy issue. The person being interviewed has pirated all his life and has been kind enough to express his personal insights on the matter. He will answer any questions you may have, so be sure to leave comments if you want to add anything.

The Interview

First I want to thank you for letting me interview you. I understand it is a hassle for both of us to do this with the time difference.

Yeah, I just want to help out with that I can.

Letâ??s get started then. Who are you?

I am a small time blogger whose hobbies span arts, technology, and literature. I think the era we live in is one of the greatest in mankind; the technological revolution and all. Recent exponential growth fascinates me.

That sounds just like something I would say. From what weâ??ve discussed earlier, you are very close to my age. Would you describe yourself as an average teenager?

An average teenager with an outlook on mischief  🙂

I donâ??t think most teens interact with technology the way I do. But I have read your biography on your website, and I would say we are very similar in fact.

So when did you started pirating?

When I was 4 or 5. I didnâ??t even know what I was doing. My momâ??s friendâ??s son hooked me up with anything I wanted. I still think I have a CD from back then. I was getting brand new games for less than $3. Back then I donâ??t think I even knew about buying games in stores.

I also played games in a computer café which I doubt payed for one single game on the 30+ computers they had. I remember one time a new bridge opened, the pope and possibly the president came to open it. I was in the computer lab across it playing Bomberman, Counterstrke, GTA, and what not, oblivious to the bridge opening. I think computers are the best toys a five year old could have. The last thing on my mind was some bridge opening that day.

How do you feel about pirating?

I hate it. In my opinion it is the same thing as stealing. No one knows I pirate. I keep it away from friends, parents, and my sister. I donâ??t want them knowing I do it and I donâ??t want others doing it.

My sister has been pirating since she was 6-7. She doesnâ??t even know what the heck pirating is either. YouTube videos give you links and you could know less about what youâ??re doing. Itâ??s terrible; especially for the new generation. Go to YouTube, search for your program of interest + â??Free downloadâ?, watch a video, download link, and follow instructions. Youâ??ve just broken about 20 different laws, but you donâ??t know it. Especially since you saved anywhere from $20-$2,500.

On the other hand thereâ??s douchebags out there that embrace the pirate culture. They have fun stealing software and sharing stuff, oblivious to the damage it causes. When it comes to the pirate culture I am just about one of the worst pirates out there. I never share anything and neither do I seed my torrents.

I canâ??t relate to the pirate culture because I donâ??t know why anyone would brag about not affording software/entertainment. If youâ??re going to do it, do it, but donâ??t act like a hotshot for stealing someoneâ??s work. A drug dealer can be proud of his infrastructure, but a inbred internet user canâ??t be proud of clicking on download links.

Why do you do it?

Because I canâ??t afford software. I may live comfortably enough in my parentâ??s house, but I donâ??t live comfortably enough to afford $400-$2000 software.

Iâ??ve worked in small businesses, where Iâ??ve seen pirating occur. Iâ??ve even seen it happen in my school. I donâ??t think Microsoft offers any license where youâ??re allowed to burn XP discs yourselves and sharpie a code on the CD. Itâ??s also very common for small businesses to pirate software such as Microsoft Office.

The reason I pirate is for education. I donâ??t use pirated software for commercial purposes. In my opinion pirating for education purposes is 100% justified.
When I was visiting my home country we were staying at a friendâ??s house. I found Autodesk Maya on there. It was pirated. From then on I started becoming really interested in 3D animation and modeling.

When Einstein was given a compass to him on his fourth birthday, the future of mankind was literally changed forever. The compass his father gave him inspired him to understand what was making the needle always point north. It quickly led Einstein to studying science and mathematics, he began exploring the world. Nearly three decades later he published his theory on relativity. In the same way that a compass once inspired a little boy, I believe that corporate level software can inspire new generations.

I wish I could find a link to something I read about a kid one time. This kid was basically 7-9 years old and was featured on Autodesk for using Maya and helping his parentâ??s factory, or something like that. It was really amazing what the kid was doing, and he was able to do it through great software. If you donâ??t believe me I found this video of a 7 year old giving a tutorial on building a spaceship in Maya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAHffOISTNw&feature=related So the potential for generations benefiting from great software is there.

Companies such as Microsoft and Autodesk now offer their software for free for educational purposes. I believe that is the right way to do it. Education should always be free, regardless if these private companies function on selling their software. Also it should be noted that most people that benefit from free educational licenses are often under 18 years old. If a 10 year old was found to be using a pirated version of Autodesk Maya to learn 3D modeling, I doubt a case would get anywhere. For that reason more companies should open up their licenses for education. Imagine if all schools had access to Photoshop, and Dreamweaver for free? We might find ourselves in a better world 20 years from now if we give our generation the right tools.

What I hate is when people pirate for entertainment purposes. If you canâ??t afford Rosetta Stone or Maya, etc, feel free to pirate it if you are going to put effort into learning. But I donâ??t think anyone should ever feel they are entitled to free entertainment.

Most people that use the internet just enjoy consuming work, creating memes, and what not. Of course 90% of the population will feel like pirating isnâ??t that bad. But when you try and start your own company, you will see how much it ruins you. So again if you are a small business, or do not need the pirated material to learn; I think you are a complete douche if you steal.

Where do you see the future of pirating going?

Naturally I would say I canâ??t predict the future, but I think in this case it is very simple. Recently Iâ??ve seen software developers trying to negotiate with pirates. Iâ??ve seen comments on download pages from people that say they are trying out a new project. They contact software developers and show them their software is being downloaded for free. Than they ask the developers to make a sales page that is 70% off (for pirates). That page is than shared on the illegal download page, asking pirates to at least pay 30% for the software.

That sounds like complete bullcrap to me. You should never negotiate with a pirate. Copying software is illegal and if someone is going to do it, you arenâ??t going to reward them not to do it. I blame all the pirating problems on the companies who make the anti-pirating techniques, such as outdated serial authentication. If itâ??s so easy a 7 year old can follow instructions on registering software for free, youâ??d think there is something wrong with the system?

In the future I would imagine that most software and video games require a remote server authentication to work. Blizzard tried this with their new game, Diablo III. Many people hated the fact that 10% of the game was hosted on a server, and you couldnâ??t play offline. But thatâ??s the only way to protect your software nowadays. Microsoft Office cracks emulate Microsoft servers and activate your products illegally. As long as the authentication process is local to some extent, pirating will always happen.

The solution would be to keep 5-10% of the necessary data on a remote server. Stuff like this takes a lot of design on the developerâ??s part, and it also doesnâ??t let you use your programs without an internet connection. In the future we should have internet just about anywhere, so that problem will be solved. Cloud computing will also become really popular. So it is possible that eventually most software will be hosted on servers remotely. Once Google Fiber makes a big hit, services such as Onlive should technically allow us to play video games on any device without any lag. Onlive is a service that lets you download PC games on a cloud computer, which you can access/play from an iPad, Android device, computer, etc.

So software and video games may become safe from pirating in the future.

As for music and movies. There is no simple fix for that. People can always download YouTube videos (extract MP3), they can always copy DVDs, etc.

The government could technically hunt down pirates. Most people are stupid enough to not mask their IPâ??s while downloading torrents, which are publically seen by everyone sharing the torrent. Iâ??ve hacked people based on the IPâ??s Iâ??ve found on new movies/games. It would be pretty easy for the government to aggregate a list of repeating offenders and issue out fees/ISP shutdowns.

I personally donâ??t use a proxy to hide my IP. But I do use a firewall to block all pirated software from trying to â??phone homeâ?. (Programs try to contact the company who makes them, and give out your info/check if you actually bought the software. If you donâ??t it probably goes in huge database that no one does anything about. For nowâ?¦) So trying to hunt down pirates is pretty hopeless in the sense that people will see it as their privacy being invaded. Eventually everyone would use proxies to download illegal programs, and then the anti-piracy implementations would just be spying on the average Joe. Even if the intent is not so, someone will abuse it, be it the government themselves, or a hacker.

Either way even if Google blocked all pirating sites/downloads, people would still share. I can still scan books, copy audio, and copy video, etc. Friends can still share songs, etc. If pirating websites were blocked or shutdown Iâ??m sure other things such as email networks would popup, and pirates would hide deeper in the internet, but they would still get their fix. As long as programs are hosted on cloud server, developers will be safe, until then, they will lose money.

I personally wanted to start a small business recently, but it would have never taken off due to pirating. It is hard to write a popular eBook nowdays, or release a small app, without having it being pirated. You donâ??t know the sadness I felt when I realized I couldnâ??t make thousands of dollars, because people would just copy my work.

Do you think thereâ??s any easy solution?

When I was first learning CSS a couple of years ago from csszengarden.com, I found a very interesting image of â??Emperor Norton Iâ? being used in the site. I was intrigued, so I looked him up. http://www.csszengarden.com/?cssfile=/213/213.css&page=0 He was self-proclaimed Imperial Majesty Emperor Norton I of the United States (and protector of Mexico), and was a celebrated citizen of San Francisco, California.

â??After losing a lawsuit in which he tried to void his rice contract, Norton left San Francisco. He returned a few years later, apparently mentally unbalanced, and claiming to be the Emperor of the United States.[6] Although he had no political power, and his influence extended only so far as he was humored by those around him, he was treated deferentially in San Francisco, and currency issued in his name was honored in the establishments he frequented.â?

I think the solution would be having more Emperor Nortons when it comes to pirating; self-proclaimed saviors that help in the race against pirates. Not the type of stuff big companies do such as trying to spread fake downloads, and claiming downloads have viruses, but more creative stuff. Iâ??m not sure what we have to do, but Iâ??m sure thereâ??s something to be done to inspire people not to pirate.

Public service announcements can surely be more engaging than the IRP makes them out to be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx8obpx4844&feature=player_embedded

In any case I am not encouraging more Anonymous (the group) douchebags getting involved. We donâ??t need any exploits/shortcuts to solving things. I imagine the way anti-smoking/texting while driving prevention programs work at public schools, anti-piracy could work the same way. Everyone gets free songs anyways, so it wouldnâ??t really teach kids that they can get the stuff for free. 90% of them do it anyways, so it would be good to teach them why itâ??s wrong. Parents could also benefit from learning similar things, and monitoring their kidâ??s activities.

Do you actually think pirating is stealing?

The bible tells us not to steal. Surely this refers to stealing your neighborâ??s goat, etc. But what if you snuck in and took its DNA and made a million goats? Are those really his goats? What if he is the only want to have goats in the world? Surely the DNA belongs to him, as do any other copies.

In the bible stealing is a white and black scenario. You steal bread from someone, they starve. Etc. If you find out their recipe and use it to outsell them, did you really steal their recipe? Even if you take it out of their notebook, etc. Did you steal the recipe, or did you steal all their future clients?

Personally I want to say you did neither. Most of the time software isnâ??t even being copied. Illegitimate keys are created. Itâ??s a grey area and it can be solved in one way. Your actions of cracking/hacking software so that you donâ??t have to pay, does in fact directly affect the creator. Whether you werenâ??t going to buy the software or not, you have still stolen the creatorâ??s right to sell his work. So no I donâ??t think pirating is stealing. I do think it is wrong because of the impacts on others.

Most people are under the conception that stealing from big corporations is okay. In all honesty these are just excuses. Would you steal from the government? It runs taxes, etc, the economy. Big corporations similarly create jobs and fuel the economy; affecting big companies in ways that cause them to sell less, is directly affecting your economy and your society.

Also most people pirate small companyâ??s work as well. I can find just about any program for free. Even things that sell for $1. Even developers that make less than $100 for their work a year. It doesnâ??t matter who you steal from, youâ??re stealing from an open market which you are part of. Saying that it is okay to steal from big corporations implies that you should never grow that big. Isnâ??t that communism to some extent if you imply limits on profits?

How much have you pirated?

I have an entire collection of software ranging from audio, word processing, 3D modeling, video editing, photo editing, DJ software, and system utilities. I also have a lot of movies and music. Iâ??m not proud of it but once you get started itâ??s hard to stop.

When I was 8 or 9 all I wanted to do was play the new Grand Theft Auto. My dad wouldnâ??t buy it for me because it was rated R. I tried finding free downloads but I never knew what the hell keygens were. I couldnâ??t setup the cracks; I didnâ??t know what cracks were. I remember praying to god on multiple occasions that I hit the jackpot and I get the right files/game that works. I never did.

For that same reason I donâ??t hide my IP when downloading illegal software. I feel like if it meant so much to me that I wanted to win â??the lotteryâ? of a working game, I might as well enter myself in the â??lotteryâ? of getting caught one day. I think I owe the world that much; not hiding.

So as a kid you want things. I wanted to play Grand Theft Auto. In the past if you wanted a BB gun or something else you either had to beg your parents, or make the cash for it. Through pirating we can have everything and anything for nothing. Video game addiction is just as serious as sex addiction, drug addiction, etc. But nowadays it can be fueled by $0. For the first time in history a man can hold a mediocre job, build a gaming computer, and play unlimited amounts of games for free. Iâ??ve played over $4000 (at least in the past few years) worth of games without buying them. Iâ??ve played 2012 games weeks and months before even the betas were released to the public.

Itâ??s easy to fuel an addiction that doesnâ??t cost anything; especially such a time destructive one such as video game addiction. I walk into video games stores and I just laugh my nutsack off looking at all the games on the shelves. Games I was playing before they were even out, and I look at the prices $60, and I laugh even more. Adding up all the games Iâ??ve played and imaging how many hours of work it would have taken me to buy them. I faintly remember how personal it felt to open a CD case and the smell of a new game. The way the CD was a little sticky to your fingers, and how youâ??d have to handle the edges careful not to touch the silver part. Now it is all about waiting 20 minutes, and emulating an .iso, installing the game, and copying over the cracked files.

Thatâ??s the horror of pirating. How much you can get for nothing. When you put it that way you really start to see that even if all those games arenâ??t worth $4000, you still contributed to at least 10% of those loses. Itâ??s easy to not care and keep on with your habits, especially when they cost nothing to maintain.

I donâ??t think breaking the rules always means something bad. In the booking Hacking: The Art of Exploitation, thereâ??s a story about two prisoners. Their guards in Texas didnâ??t know how to use computers, and they thought the prisoners were even dumber. So they gave them unmonitored access to computers. These two prisoners ended up connecting to the internet, controlling all the prison computers, emails, passwords, etc. Were they breaking the law? Were they breaking the rules? Yes, they were. When they got out they both went into IT and started their own businesses. They may have been doing something illegal, but it sure ended up benefiting them in the future.

So in the case of pirating for non-educational purposes; it may also be justifiable. But as you can see once I laid down the line, it was easy to move it again when comparing even worse actions such as pirating video games. Thatâ??s the thing about pirating. You canâ??t keep moving the line, because the world doesnâ??t run on free. Not even open source is free. The tradeoff is time spent using open source software, when you could be using software designed for specific purposes in mind. So you canâ??t drive developers into free. It just doesnâ??t work that way. You get what you paid for.

If you use a cracked antivirus suite, you have to think. Should you really be using an antivirus suite that was vulnerable enough to be cracked by some 15 year old living in his basement?

In my opinion decisions about pirating should be up to you, the individual. Not anyone else. Iâ??ve honestly been lost in the middle of the problem long ago. I think Iâ??m better than other pirates, and Iâ??m sure other pirates think theyâ??re better than the corporations, and so forth. It is a vicious cycle. But it is indeed the cycle of pirating.

It is really scary because it is possible some companies caused the pirating problem on purpose. If you watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJIuYgIvKsc you can see what I mean. The guy is a bit off, but the things he says about cnet.com are very valid. I don’t know the truth, I can’t really discern it from the mess of public data. But something fishy is going on. It seems like the classical, create a problem (such as pirating), offer a solution (anti-pirating bills), BAM! You’ve just got control of millions of people. Give them the tools to break laws, than say they can’t govern themselves, than take away their basic rights. Tactical indeed. That’s why I say you can’t listen to my opinions about pirating, and you can’t really listen to other’s opinions either. Your best bet is researching the topic and deciding if you can live with the guilt/risk of pirating. You should also decide if you want your kids to grow up in such a goalless world where they can have anything they want without paying for it.

If you want to pirate go ahead, if you want to shut down the whole system, please become an Emperor Norton for anti-piracy, go ahead. I really don’t know what is wrong or right anymore in this sense. Your decision is probably better than mine. Good luck.

How would you feel if you woke up one day and pirating was completely eradicated?

It would look like something from the last scene of The Dark Night Rises, where Alfred looks across to Bruce; and that would be that. I would be would be happy the way Alfred feels for Bruce. But at the same time I would be sad for losing such a close friend. Because after all, pirating is sharing, and sharing is commication, and communication is the spectacle of humanity.

Insurance companies have a number of different options available for different types of cover to protect everything from your car to your pet’s health.

Regardless of your circumstances, insurance is an important measure to have in place when the unexpected happens. Check out what happened in the three biggest bank thefts in history – remember, they didn’t think it would happen to them either!

The Banco Central burglary, Brazil

Central Brazillian bank Banco Central thought the risks of being robbed were too small to bother with the services of insurance companies. However, on August 6, 2005, a gang of thieves managed to steal over R$164 million (£51.5 million) from a Banco Central branch in Fortaleza in the north east of Brazil.

The burglars rented an empty house two blocks away from the bank three months before the robbery took place. Over this time, they tunnelled 78 metres beneath the city before breaking through the wall of the vault, posing as a landscaping company to account for the truck-loads of soil being removed daily from the property. Of the 25 men thought to be involved, only eight have been arrested and under R$8 million of the lost loot has been recovered.

The Knightsbridge Security Deposit robbery, UK

Valerio Viccei, a wanted Italian thief, led a robbery in Knightsbridge, London on 12 July 1987, escaping with a hoard worth an estimated £60 million (equivalent to over £105 million in the present day.) Two men entered the Knightsbridge Safe Deposit Centre where they requested to rent a safety deposit box. On entering the vault, the men produced guns, threatening the manager and security guards before placing a ‘closed’ sign on the street entrance and letting in more accomplices, who proceeded to plunder the safety deposit boxes at will. Viccei fled to South America and was only caught after returning to England to retrieve his beloved Ferrari Testarossa.

The Central Bank of Iraq Heist, Iraq

In March 2003, the day before US military forces started bombing Iraq, Dictator Saddam Hussein carried out what is considered to be the largest bank robbery in history.

The former Iraqi president sent his son Qusay to the Central Bank of Iraq on his behalf, with a hand written note ordering $920 million (£586 million) to be withdrawn. Qusay and another unidentified man oversaw the loot, made up of boxes of $100 bills, being loaded into trucks over the course of five hours.

These are considered to be the three biggest bank robberies the world has seen so far – have you heard of any other huge historical heists?

London is the city that lives and breathes its historical past, yet its vibrant pulse sets the trends that the world watches.

In culture, fashion, music, architecture and the arts, ideas, nowhere else is like the London. Constantly-evolving, always entertaining, it’s the city that should be right at the the top of your must-see list.

However, London can be expensive, a real shock to your wallet. If you’re looking for good value accommodation, the World Wide Web has dozens of hotel choices including serviced apartments in all the popular districts. But there is an upside to the expense of London. The capital offers not just dozens, but hundreds of free attractions and sights. From museums to art galleries, historic parks to scenic walks, they will not cost you a cent.

Buckingham is one of the few remaining working palaces in the world. Home and office to The Queen, as well as the official London residence of the British Monarchy since 1937, Buckingham should be at the top of any touristâ??s priority list. Visitors are able to tour the 19 State Rooms during the summer, which are decorated with Rembrandts, Rubens, and more. The Changing of the Guard is one of the many things you will want to witness at Buckingham Palace and this takes place at 11:30 from May through August. The switching is on alternate days during the remaining months.

The 700-year-old Abbey is hard to get out of mind. It is located in the heart of London. It is open for visits Monday through Saturday, but only open for worship on Sundays and religious holidays. All are welcome to attend the worship ceremonies. With more than 1000 years of history, the Westminster Abbey is a sight that cannot be missed.

Abbey Road Studios is where the Beatles recorded 90 percent of their recordings. It also inspired the name of their final record as a group. Of course, what we all know about is the iconic image of them walking on the zebra crossing outside the studio. Abbey Road is still visited by high-profile artists, such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snow Patrol. The crossing remains the most popular pedestrian crosswalks of all time. Abbey Road is definitely worth a visit, and there is even a Beatles Coffee Shop located nearby.

Londonâ??s clock tower and Houses of Parliament, commonly referred to as Big Ben, is one of the most recognisable and noteworthy landmarks in London. Whether an a movie, poster, or brochure, you have seen Big Ben, and you certainly should not leave London without seeing it in person. Technically, what is called Big Ben is the 19-ton bell; inside the clock tower. Big Ben is definitely a place to see by day; at night, the four clock faces are illuminated. The clock tower is not open the general public to tour, but can still be seen from the streets.

Finally, the Tower of London is another of those must-see places, full of history and culture. From the Crown Jewels, to the White Tower and Medieval Palace, there is a lot to see on a visit. There are live historical reenactments and childrenâ??s activity trails, making the Tower of London a perfect destination for the whole family.

Since I got my IPhone, it seems the line between work and play has got a lot thinner.

This is probably because I get such a kick out of the apps I use for work that it almost feels like play. For all those who are looking to get better organized but enjoy a bit of play after work hours, and still nurture their creative side, I’ve made a little list of my top 2 IPhone apps for work, play and creativity.

iPhone apps for work or on the go

Tungle. me– this app has dramatically changed the way I schedule my appointments. Now that there’s an IPhone app, time scheduling-on-the go is finally not verging on impossible. No more going through tons of emails before a convenient time can be found or trying to work out time zones when you’re too busy to even know your own.

Skype – conference calls, video meetings, or job interviewing are also things that often have to be done out of the office. There is no video conference call yet or share screen option for IPhone, but you can still view the screen if your contact uses Windows or Mac OS X. Call quality will depend on your WiFi or 3G network connection but Skype is still in my top 2 work apps.

All work and no Play? Here are my top to play apps

Draw Something -This is an app that caters to my creative impulses as well as ensuring a bit of fun with friends or a long distance loved one. You get a word and do your best to represent it in your drawing and then send it to your friend to guess it. Not really a competitive but rather a cooperative little game, perfect for a bit of stress-free fun.

SongPop – Another game where you get to send challenges to your friends or even random music loving strangers. The aim of the game is to recognize the tune and name the artist or the song. Playlists vary, from latest rap to nostalgic classics or love songs.

Iphone apps to get Creative

Green Screen Studio – With this app you can choose or take photos and remove the background. Why I found it amazing? Because you get to add in new backgrounds from your library of wallpapers and photos. Just think, you can finally prove your granddad was on the Moon!

Squiggles – And if just the background change is not enough, with this app you get to doodle on a selected image or photo from your album. You can decorate your pics with overlay images and special stamp brushes.

Well, your list might differ but if you’re an IPhone owner you will agree a top 2 list is not that easy to make. Mostly because new apps are appearing all the time, and range from fun audio and video apps to very useful finance apps. The apps I’ve listed are fun and easy to use which surely helps to secure their place at the top.

For many years scientists have wondered just who would win in the fight between the Liopleurodon vs. Megalodon but they have never really come up with a conclusion until now.

They have had to take several things in to consideration. The keys factors that really matter in finding out who would win between the Liopleurodon vs. Megalodon would be:

1. Size

2. Speed

3. Hunting habits

4. Defense

These four key factors will give you a good indication of who would win between the Liopleurodon vs. Megalodon. Taking in to consideration that the biggest Liopleurodon that they have recorded is only 23 feet long and they would tend to hunt alone. They were known for their speed and ability to ambush their predators and have the ability to use their nostrils to tell when there was prey or a predator around them so that they could be ready for whatever came their way.

Liopleurodon vs. Megalodon

However if they were to get in to a fight to the death with a Megalodon there are a few things that would suggest that they would lose the battle and become the Megaladonâ??s next meal. Unlike the Liopleurodon the Megalodon had several things that they did not. The first being their size, the largest recorded Megalodon was a whopping 67 foot long with a bite force of 41,000 pounds bite force. That is massive! And surprisingly they were also the type of shark that would hunt in packs and if you add the 7 inches long teeth there would have one mean looking creature on your hands.

Liopleurodon

If you put together all of the known factors and actually spent the time to put together the information that a lot of scientists and specialists have you would see that when it comes to the Liopleurodon vs. Megalodon and who would win, while both have great qualities the Megalodon would have the victory over the Liopleurodon for the simple fact that it not only was 3 times the size of them. They also would hunt in packs which would mean that the only defense that the Liopleurodon would have would be their speed with their paddle- like fins. In reality they would not even really be able to use their teeth to bite and really do any damage as their teeth were smooth sided and not serrated which means that while they can bite they were not really able to do that much damage if any to the Megaladon . It would be like sending an unarmed man into a gun fight and expect them to come out on top, which is just not going to happen unless you have some type of super power.

So knowing now what you do you can make the assumption that while both really do have some great attributes. But in the end it would be the Megalodon that would come out on top because they not only are the ones that hunt in packs but they use their size to their advantage. It is almost as if the Liopluerodon would not have a fighting chance .

Guns
The debate about gun laws is very intense. Although I donâ??t know what would happen if guns were banned; I can tell you what I think would happen and why it would be a bad idea.

The Obvious

In the United States Constitution gun rights come right after freedom of speech rights. The 2nd amendment protects an individualâ??s right to possess a firearm. Nullifying the second amendment would be just as hard as nullifying the 1st amendment.

Right of Protection

The reason it would be really hard to ban guns is because they actually protect people. If you live out in the woods you would want to have a shotgun handy against bears or wolves. If you live in the ghetto you would want to carry a concealed weapon in case of throat cutting thieves.

Although most people live their lives thinking guns are unnecessary; they often donâ??t realize the protection they offer. What I would say to someone that thinks guns are unnecessary for protection is, â??Imagine robbers came into your house tied you down, and abused your wife and children in front of you and then murdered them.â? It sounds like a horrible thing, but these are the types of situations that the 2nd amendment was made for. The world is a horrible place and the sooner people realize that, the sooner they will understand that protection is always necessary.

Outlawing Guns

If you outlaw guns only outlaws would have them. Letâ??s be honest with ourselves. If amateur scientists can create nuclear bombs, any average Joe could mold a gun.

The eighteenth amendment banned alcohol in the United States. This amendment gave way for organized crime to be formed. Prisons became packed, the justice system wasnâ??t keeping up, and organized crime was booming. Within 13 years the 18th amendment was repealed. It still remains the only constitutional amendment to be repealed.

In the same way that the banning of alcohol didnâ??t work, the banning of guns will not work. Letâ??s forget about guns for a second.

Sadly every other year a psycho path part takes in a mass killing. If guns did not exist in any form, and were not even available in black markets, mass killings would still take place. If a man wants to hurt someone else they will always find a way. Guns would be replaced by swords, homemade explosives, and grenades.  Letâ??s not even think about the people that would be crazy enough to engulf a building in flames and set fire to it. Regardless of guns existing and being available or not, someone will always find a way to hurt someone else. Banning guns wouldn’t magically solve all violent crimes.

Police

Surely the police will always need firearms. How else would they respond to criminals using homemade flamethrowers and other gizmos instead of guns? So letâ??s assume that the police have access to guns. Somewhere along the line, guns would start leaking from corrupt police into the hands of criminals.

Homemade Flame Thrower Gloves

Homemade Flame Thrower Gloves

Letâ??s imagine that corruption would not be happening. How would the police control illegal gun importing? Every year countries around the world seize tons of illegal drugs entering their land. If drugs can get through so can guns.

Criminals

Criminals need protection themselves. If they are out selling drugs, etc, you can expect that a criminal will need a gun. They will find a way to create or access weapons either way.

Gun Supplies

If guns were banned it wouldnâ??t take all guns off the market. You can assume that individuals would hide their guns, and store owners would do the same. Once guns are banned the only thing that changes is the price of guns; nothing else. Either someone sells you a gun they used to own, or they sell you one they made. The demand is still there, but the supply is smaller.

Hunters

Some people still require that they hunt. You can rest assured that all hunters would be outraged if guns were banned. You canâ??t ban the instrument that 21 million of Americans need to get food, hold a job, or enjoy their hobby.

Hunting Gun Laws

The Solution

I personally think we need more responsible gun holders. If more people had guns than hopefully shooters could be eliminated in mass shootings.

Anyone that wants to ban guns (because they are afraid of others holding them) should in my opinion go out and get a concealed weapons permit. Guns are not going anywhere, and neither are any other primal forms of weapons. Sadly, tragedies will always happen and the best we can do is prepare ourselves, and make sure we can defend ourselves in any situation.

Samuel Williams, 71, who fired the shots, has a concealed weapons permit, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Under Florida law, a person is allowed to use deadly force if he or she fears death or serious injury to themselves or others. As long as the person isn’t committing a crime and is in a place where he or she has a right to be, they are considered to be acting within the law.

Williams, who lives in Ocala, could not be reached for comment on Monday. But at least one of his 30 fellow patrons at the cafe wants to thank him. The Internet cafe patron who shot and injured two men as they tried to rob the business will likely not face any criminal charges.
