Gameplay

In this great-value platformer you play as a Ninja that lunges from platform to platform collecting golden points and special powers, all while avoiding laser beams, spotlights, explosive lanterns and more. Hiro in Winterland features a great physics engine as well as great retro graphics.

Mission Accomplished

The amount of game time and (33) levels you get for this $.99 game is really surprising. Also the character that you play as is invisible to the naked eye, so it makes things interesting when you’re playing. This game is certainly on the creative side!

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a platformer game you can enjoy, and one that provides a lot of game content for a cheap price, then Hiro in Winterland is your game.

Preschool Funbox is a really great game that is made up of multiple educational mini-games. It’s usually $1.99, but at the time of this review it was half off.

Gameplay

Children from three to six years old will love Preschool Funbox. It has over 10 game types ranging from logic, to puzzles, shapes and mazes. Not to mention that there are over 600 levels in total.

Parents will also love this “game,” because for them it turns into a statistical app that helps them facilitate their children’s learning. The statistics keeps track of all problem solving, levels and progress so that parents are always on top of what their kids are learning or struggling with.

Mission Accomplished

Preschool Funbox has a lot of content and is really cheap when you consider how valuable it is. This game excels in every single aspect from graphics, to value, to even parental features.

Room to improve

For parents with multiple kids this app should offer a user function that tracks each kid individually.

Conclusion

If you have a child between three and six years old then this is a must-have app for them. Hopefully you get it soon while it’s still on sale.

I usually put off writing reviews until the weekend when I have time for them. However, this new app called Horizon came out today and I simply can’t wait to review it.

Basically this app sets out to fix those pesky vertical videos that people always put up on the internet. Vertical videos happen when people hold their videos vertically when recording instead of horizontally. If you look at the bottom image on the left above, you can see how these vertical videos are then filled in with a lot of black space.

The Horizon app fixes all of that black space by rotating the video, and zooming in, so that no matter how you hold your phone you will always get a perfect shot in.

Features

I didn’t think that the videos this app shoots will be stable while rotating the phone, but it actually does keep videos stable. I suspect that the developers have a special program running in the background that stabilizes videos because the end-result is amazing. While testing the app I rotated my phone 720+ degrees and then watched the footage. It was hard to tell when I was rotating the phone and when I was keeping it still. The stabilization is just too good!

Mission Accomplished

On top of nailing horizontal video shooting and stabilization, this app also offers an array of filters. The interface of Horizon is really great and so are the features. I mean, this has got to be a great app for me to review it on a Tuesday instead of Friday or Saturday! Take my word for it, this app is really worth it.

Room to improve

It seems that filters can only be applied to videos while you’re recording. So if you record something without a filter you can’t add one later. I think that’s a bit silly, even though not “life-threatening” to my use of the Horizon app. Hopefully the developers will add this feature.

Conclusion

Horizon is a great app not just for giving to your grandma or tech-illiterate friends in hopes of removing their vertical video syndrome. It’s also a great app to use for image stabilization. Maybe you need to shoot a video with one hand and can’t use the other one on the phone, or maybe you’re just clumsy. Horizon will insure that no matter how much you rotate your phone, even if you do a 360 with it, your shot will always look stunning. I think for $.99 that’s a bargain 🙂

Features

It’s really annoying that the iOS photo library doesn’t let you view GIFs. This free app solves that by loading in GIFs from your photo library and then lets you view their animation.

Mission Accomplished

The user interface on this app is simple and elegant, just like iOS 7 is. The fact that this app is free is really great too.

Room to improve

It would be great if you could change the color scheme of the app from pink to another color.

Conclusion

If you want to view GIFs on your phone then this is the app that you need. It’s sad that iOS doesn’t support playing GIFs in the photo album, but at least this app takes care of that and its free.

Mission Accomplished

The idea of using an app to stay on top of free offers is really great. Latest Free Stuff has a wide range of free things and is constantly updated.

Conclusion

I’m not sure why anyone would not download this app. It’s simply a must-have and will save you some money in the long-run if you make use of the free things you find using Latest Free Stuff.

Game – Learning – Reward. A brand new, fun way of learning. Although the iPad cannot teach your child the correct pencil grip or body posture, it can be a very good tool for training the shapes used in learning to write. By “finger writing”, the brain activates the same centers the child uses when writing with a pencil. With the application “Smart Balloons – Learning to Write” the child is practicing the basic movements of writing – from simple lines to complex curve. Each shape training features 3 difficulty levels – full line tracing, dotted line tracing and freehand which has only a few reference points to guide the child’s hand.

Gene is a game that will be on January 31st, 2014. In addition to being available on iOS, it will also be available on Android, Tizen, Windows 8 phone, Windows 8, Linux and Mac. The iOS price will be £2.99, which includes the entire game and all 15 levels. No in-app purchases will be required in this game 🙂

Gameplay

In this game, which is inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog, you play as Gene. Gene is an alien that crash-lands on an unknown planet and needs to collect coins in order to fix his ship. Collecting coins isn’t as easy as you would imagine though. The unknown planet Gene travels through is full of enemies, spikes, vacuums of space and dangerous obstacles.

Travelling throughout the planet is done by two directional buttons, left and right, as well as a jump button and mutations button.

Starting levels is really simple, you just enter them from the home world. To successfully complete levels you must collect enough coins, but you can always go back to the home world whenever you want from the game’s menu. The great thing about Gene is that he has six mutations which can be unlocked every three levels. These mutations give him an extra ability, such as being able to plant mines for enemies to trip, or being able to jump higher. Gene can only use one of his mutations at a time though, which can be selected from a mutations menu.

When all six mutations have been unlocked, then Gene will be able to defeat every enemy and access every gem across every level. If Gene loses all his lives after being hit by enemies or falling through space too much, he starts over from a nearby checkpoint. It’s certainly nice to have a checkpoint automatic save, than to start the entire game over when you lose all of your lives.

Just to clarify, you can’t kill enemies by jumping on their head. Gene has to specifically plant a mine and wait for them to trigger it to successfully remove an enemy from the level.

Mission Accomplished

Gene is really awesome and provides gamers with a lot of game-time. Once you complete the 15 level story mode you can play in the free-play mode that lets you reply all of the previous levels, in which you can access new areas with all of your mutations.

Room to improve

I was able to play the beta of this game three weeks before it came out, and I noticed some things that could be improved. Sometimes falling on spikes doesn’t take away a live. Also if you jump up and get squished between a moving platform and a normal platform, you get pushed and stuck in the normal platform.

Conclusion

If you like platformers, especially games like Sonic the Hedgehog or Mario, then this game is really worth it. Even if you’re not the biggest fan of platformers, if this game looks interesting to you, then you should get it. It’s definitely got a lot of game-time and very creative.
