Truth is, and you can’t possibly argue with it because this is not a dialogue, so truth is that you’re not a real biologist unless you have these apps on your smartphone. That’s it â?? I’ve spoken. I mean, you can’t possibly take yourself seriously as a scientist if you don’t have apps backing you up. Being a biologist without a smartphone and these apps in a particular is like being a priest and not have a Bible (or, you know, a Bible app or something). It’s insane, shouldn’t happen. I even wonder how people were dealing with biology before the invention of smartphones. Seriously, think about how much easier would it have been for Darwin to write â??On The Origin of Speciesâ? if he had a smartphone in his hand. People wouldn’t be arguing with evolution today. They would say, â??Darwin had a smartphone, so he must’ve been right.â? Imagine how many pointless debates could’ve been averted. But it’s not too late. You can still get these apps and see what it’s all about. Like, these apps are needed by biologists worldwide, but you can download them even if you’re not a scientist, so don’t worry about it â?? just do it and get a hang of the whole biology thing. So without further a due, here’s the apps essential for your scientific career.
Molecules
Forget about electronic microscopes. If you need to view the structure of certain proteins and other molecules, you can use the so aptly named app. Just search through the database for what you’re looking for and don’t even for a second think about wasting your time using your lab equipment. Why would you do that? It’s not like you don’t have an app for that.
But this is useful outside the lab, too. Like, how many times have you been in a pub talking to your mates, and you were like, â??You know what’s really fascinating? Titin! Here, have a look at the molecule…â? and then you realize that 2-D pictures are boring and you would like to have a 3-D model? Well, now you can, because the app totally gives you access. It’s pretty neat and will definitely make you the soul of the party.
Solutions
The name of this nifty little application is actually a double meaning, because: 1) it has to do with solutions; and 2) it gives you a solution to making all those tedious calculations when it comes to making a solution. You simply cannot breathe without this application if you’re a self-respecting scientist. This is the type of calculation software people have been waiting for since the dawn of time If I were you, I would be ashamed for not getting it earlier but I guess it’s better late than never.
The software lets you make calculations in an orderly manner, so you will never mess up your solutions again.
Evernote
Every good scientist talks to himself, and biologists are no exception. You need to take notes but tape recorders are so last century. Now you can use Evernote and take the best notes and recordings of your voice you can ever hope for, and then you can perfectly sort them out. Imagine how many scientific breakthroughs were simply lost in history because the people who discovered them forgot where they put them down. This will never happen to you with Evernote.

This game is a very similar experience to Temple Run, but better in many ways. Vampire Runner has a range of levels that you can advance through by defeating a werewolf. Werewolves will drop a treasure chest which will reward you with power-ups and other goodies. You can still play endlessly like in Temple Run, but Vampire Runner lets you advance through a linear level system as well, which is something I really appreciate.
Throughout levels you have to tilt your device to collect bloodstones, and tap left or right to turn throughout a winding path. Swiping down and up before running through obstacles will make your character jump up or slide under those obstacles. If you hit an obstacle twice, then the werewolves chasing you will catch up and the game will end.
Bloodstones can be used to purchase upgrades and defense shields that will serve as advantages in the game. You can also use gems to continue games that you would have lost otherwise. Bloodstones and gems are limited, and earned by playing Vampire Runner. However, if you run out of them and want more, you can always purchase them through in-app purchases.
Mission Accomplished
You can challenge friends to play Vampire Runner and see how well they do, and if they out-do you. Another great thing about this game is the fact that it has a map system with multiple levels.
Conclusion
If you are a fan of Temple Run, or even if you’re new to endless running games, then you will probably enjoy Vampire Runner. I don’t know who I would’t recommend this game to. It’s perfect for any age and a great way to pass the time.
People who want to connect their Xbox 360 to their wireless network might be a little shocked that they have to shell out extra money for a unique wireless adapter. However, it would only cost them $30 to $4 using an Ethernet cord. At the same time, it will only take them a few minutes to complete this connection.
One of the benefits of using Ethernet cables to connect their Xbox 360 is that they can utilize the Internet and other types of electronic devices with their game system at the same time. It also provides them with an enhanced gaming experience by interacting with other online gamers.
Utilizing a Bridged Connection
A bridged connection involves linking a single connection into another. In this case, a person will be connecting their network to their Xbox 360 with an Ethernet cable. To start, they should assemble their devices and tools that include an Xbox 360, a PC that has a connection to the wireless home network and a typical Ethernet cable.
It is very important to turn off the PC, Xbox 360 and the modem. At the same time, they should connect their Xbox 360 to the PC with an Ethernet cable. When the connection has been secured, they should turn their modem or router and PC back on.

I grew up in what was probably a golden age for childrenâ??s television and I couldnâ??t get enough of Mr Benn and Bleep and Booster. One programme that I never really took to, however, even as a child, was the Clangers. I actually used to turn this one off but it is considered a classic, indeed so much so that it is being resurrected. I wonder if I will discover a new appreciation for the show the second time around?
The Original
The original show was first broadcast in 1969, appropriately just a short time after the first moon landing which was certainly something I watched with great interest even though I was only 6 years old. In that respect the series was very much of its time as there was a general fascination with all things space and this show told the story of a race of aliens on a nearby planet. The Clangers themselves were, oddly, pink knitted rodent like creatures who lived in craters covered by dustbin lids. The lidsâ?? clang gave the programme its name. The other characters in the show included the Soup Dragon and the Iron Chicken!
Language
The Clangers communicated by using a strange whooping sound and I am interested to learn that the scripts were written out in full and in English rather than whooping. Joint creator Oliver Postgate has revealed that the written dialogue included a lot of swear words! Apparently the whooping Clangers swear like troopers and that could make me see the show in a whole new light!
New Series
The new series will feature modern animation techniques and scripts written by Postgateâ??s son Daniel. Perhaps the modern incarnation will appeal to me more than the original which seemed ridiculous even to a six year old. I know millions of children loved those little pink creatures but they just got on my nerves! I obviously have an issue with Peter Firmin, the showâ??s co-creator as he was also behind Ivor the Engine and Bagpuss and I didnâ??t like those either!
A New Era
Despite my own misgivings the Clangers has been hailed as a classic and the iconic programmeâ??s return will be much celebrated. I just donâ??t know how it will come across in the technological age. When you consider the science fiction imagery kids are exposed to today, including animations, the Clangers is going to seem a bit crude.
Pink Rodents
I guess that with knitted figures the show is at least very much of the current era too. After a period in the doldrums when only grannies knitted, the craft has seen a major resurgence in recent years and is very popular amongst the young. There are even many celebrities who publicly knit. Perhaps when the Clangers re-emerge in 2015 everyone will be dropping their Aran knits and funky scarfs in favour of crafting pink space age rodents! I doubt if I will be joining them but I do think this is a show which could gain cult status around the world, if not in my household.

Lost Chapters HD is somewhat like Farmmville, in the sense that its a game about “harvesting” or “mining” resources. Unlike Farmville though, Lost Chapters HD is really fun to play. The story behind Lost Chapters is basically this: a handful of adventurers set out in search of ancient (and valuable) artifacts on a remote island. You, as the player, have to control their every move to lead them to success.
None of the characters have any idea of the monsters and challenges they will face, and it’s up to you to make sure they thrive. Although the game and atmosphere first starts off as a beach trip, things get more serious as time goes on. In Lost Chapters you have to keep your adventurers on-task by always making them collect food, water and wood. Collection is assigned by simply tapping on the resource that needs to be collected.
Resources can be used in the engineering and living modules to create buildings and tools that benefit the adventurers. To keep things fun, you can also explore caves and conduct research experiments which both pay great rewards. These rewards come in a variety of coins and resources.
To lead your adventurers to success you will not only need to keep them on task, but also have some sort of strategy in mind. Digging in the ground yields treasures, fighting monsters yields new land from the natives, and research leads to better technology.
If you have a huge lot of land, its useless if you don’t have enough resources to dig it properly. Similarly, if you have a lot of resources and not land, you’re stuck. This game is all about balancing your time and resources in a manner that gets you ahead without putting too much at risk.
In addition to all of the great things that you can do in Lost Chapters HD, it also comes jam-packed with tons of quests! These quests range from really simple tasks to bigger problems that you have to solve. Each task is more fulfilling than the last, so it’s great fun advancing in this game.
Gems
Lost Chapters HD works on a time system. Anytime you want to cut down some wood, open a cave hatch, research new technology, or do anything else imaginable, you will have to wait a certain amount of time for the task to be completed.
If you are impatient with this, you can do two things: purchase gems through in-app purchases, or earn gems for free by watching advertisements. Gems are really helpful in getting things done quickly, but are not required for beating this game.
Free Resources
If you invite friends to Lost Chapters HD using promocodes,or enter in promocodes from your friends, you will both earn random gifts. This is definitely a cool and appreciated game feature. It makes it way easier to advance in the game when you earn a plethora of free resources from friends.

This game succeeds where other Tycoon-styled games on the iPhone fail. Lost Chapters HD is an interesting game that many find enjoyable. In fact, it’s rated 4 1/2 stars on average.
The graphics, game play, experience and music are all great. It’s no surprise that this game is so great though. Lost Chapters HD is really popular on Android (known as Tiny Tribes). This game has done really well on Android and its doing well on iOS as well.
Room to improve
When you watch video advertisements to earn free gems, the advertisement audio overlaps the game’s background music. It would be nice if the game music was muted.
Also, when the game first starts, there is no initial cut scene explaining the story behind the characters. There’s a cut scene for the Android version, so I’m not sure why this was omitted in iOS. Lost Chapters could also be improved by having a guide tutorial sequence. But to be honest, the game is so easy that anyone with minimal game experience could pick it up in less than 10 minutes.
Conclusion
If you’re into Tycoon-styled games or Farmville, then Lost Chapters HD is just the game for you. If you’re a novice gamer and have never played strategy type games before, then Lost Chapters HD is still a great game to try. It’s free and pretty easy to get into.
Gameplay
PuzzleFace allows you to compete with random players online or with your Facebook friends. When you start a new game you are asked to pick a theme that ranges from movie stars, to animals and fashion. This theme will dictate the images that show up during your games.
There is also a â??shuffleâ? theme that will shuffle different images from all themes.
Once a theme is selected, you and your friend are put into the first round. A blurred image will appear, and you have 20 seconds to pick the answer that corresponds to the image.
If the image is too blurry, you can spend a â??un-blur creditâ? that will make the image clearer. You can also add more time or eliminate two wrong answers to cheat a little. However you will have to watch out: un-blur, time and elimination credits are limited. You can always purchase more credits using your in-game coins.
Depending on who gets the most right answers, or who answers the fastest, a winner will be determined. The winner will get a hefty amount of coins which they can use to purchase more themes and un-blur, time and elimination credits.
Games with friends and online players are not in real time though. Each player goes through five rounds, and then itâ??s the other playerâ??s turn to do the same. Games therefore could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 days to complete depending on how fast the other person gets their rounds done.
If the person youâ??re playing with takes too long to finish their rounds, you can always â??nudgeâ? them to give them a reminder.
Mission Accomplished
This game is not only free but also fun to play with friends. Itâ??s a great way to pass time and easier to play than an intense game such as Ruzzle. Not to mention that there are over 1,500 celebs and over 7,200 puzzles in total.
There are no in-app advertisements in PuzzleFace, which is really awesome. PuzzleFace also has a â??My Statisticsâ? section that shows your amounts of wins, losses, and the theme you perform best under.
Room to improve
It would be nice if there was an in-app chat system to message other people while waiting in-between rounds.
Conclusion
If you like social puzzle games, then PuzzleFace is the right game for you. Considering that itâ??s free, you have nothing to lose by giving it a try.
This app is a cracking app to have if you want to learn about the American Revolution, which the app states was a fight against injustice and tyranny, as well as for freedom.
At the beginning of the app there is a great introduction with music and images before being given four options, which includes a timeline, photo gallery, quotes slideshow and a video summary. Having the option of quotes, pictures and videos being displayed by themselves is different from some other Touchzing Media app books. I like this as every interactive book that I read from Touchzing seems to be slightly different in a unique way.
The photo gallery is like a virtual desk, where you can manoeuvre the pictures around on a desktop and if you want to look at one closely you just tap on it to bring the picture up to full size. I really liked the quotes gallery with the great pictures in the background fading away.
The app goes into more detail in the timeline, but if you are like me and want an overview of the American Revolution before taking a look at each individual event, then I’d recommend looking at the video summary beforehand. You can reach the photo gallery, video summary and quotes through the timeline also. This app is very simply laid out and easy to make your way around in.
On the timeline you can either click on the text to find out information, which brings up an interactive photo set also, or you can click on the featured image for that particular event.
To wet your appetite, here is a brief overview of the American Revolution and if you are interested in this crucial event in history, this app will educate you on all aspects of this revolution leading to freedom. In this app you can learn about the American Revolution in a lot more detail as there are sections on The Proclamation of 1763, The Sugar Act, The Virginia Stamp act, The Boston Tea Party and The Boston Massacre for instance and many, many more events.

The American War for Independence, known better as the American Revolutionary War, was fought between the 13 British Colonies in North America and their mother nation, Great Britain. It lasted for eight years, starting in April of 1775 and ending in September of 1783. It changed the fate of the entire world and ended in the founding of a nation that has become one of the earthâ??s biggest powerhouses.
Although the actual war started in 1775, the era of revolution actually started years before in 1763. It started with strict laws by Britain that had even stricter punishments. This created tension between Britain and her colonists. These tensions came to a head after the Tea Act was passed in 1772. In response to this legislation, a group of colonists, led by Samuel Adams, dressed as Native Americans and ambushed ships carrying tea and threw the cargo into the harbor. This became known as the Boston Tea Party.
After three more years of rising tension, Massachusetts was eventually labeled a rebel and the Battles of Lexington and Concord happened on April 19 of 1775. By August, King George III declared the Americans to be traitors to the British Crown.
The British Empire had a clear advantage. They were an established, powerful nation with a well-trained army and navy. They also had a slew of allies that supported them. However, the colonists had assets of their own. First of all, they were led by George Washington, argued to be one of the most brilliant military leaders in history. They also had the aid of France as well as other assistance from British commanding errors.
There were several times when the British almost overcame the Continental Army. However, significant defeats at Trenton and Princeton, New Jersey in 1776 rallied the patriotsâ?? spirits and their victory at Saratoga, New York in 1777 stopped the British from advancing in Canada and led their French allies to intervene on the rebelsâ?? behalf.
In 1778, the fighting moved south. Although the British managed to capture Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina and defeated the Americans at Camden, the patriots stuck together. They disrupted supply lines and aggravated the loyalists, causing the British to fail to control the rest of the South. By 1781, the colonists and the French had defeated the British in Yorktown, Virginia. This was the last major battle and decided the fate of the war. In 1783, the leaders met in Paris and signed the Treaty of Paris on September 3.
A war always comes with casualties. 7,200 Americans died in battle and 10,000 died from disease and another 8,500 died while in British prisons. On the British side, 1,240 were killed in battle and a shocking 18,500 died from disease. This is not even counting the casualties from their allies and those that deserted. The financial costs were equally staggering.
Beyond the human and the monetary costs, however, is the result of the American Revolution. The United States were founded and the people gained their freedom. This war was revolutionary in many ways, and it will forever remain in the history books as a war of utmost significance.

The app is easy to navigate around and is a lot more interesting than just a plain book to read. I had a lot of fun as well as educating myself more about the events surrounding the American Revolution. So far, all of Touchzing Media’s interactive books that I’ve read have been a joy to read. This app is well worth investing in for the knowledge that you gain and to make self education a fun experience.
Room to improve
I can’t think of many improvements in this app as it is a solid app with a lot of information contained within. One thing that would make the quotes slideshow more poignant would be to put some touching classical heartfelt music into the background. This would heighten the mood and impact of the quotes. Just a suggestion for the developers if a future update is planned.
Conclusion
As usual, Touchzing have created yet another brilliant app to make learning fun as well as interesting. A class ‘A’ app.
