iPhone image

Jailbreaking a phone means removing the restrictions put in by the manufacturer. It gives you more control over your affairs, but at the same time you have to take responsibility for practically everything.

Jailbreaking isnâ??t for everybody. For some people, it can even make things worse. Here are some of the reasons why you might decide against going through the jailbreaking process.

Bricking

Bricking is where your iPhone passes out. It faints and decides not to work any longer. You can easily fix this by wiping the whole phone and starting again, but this is a hassle. Thereâ??s no telling when it will brick or whether it will brick at all. Itâ??s practically a lottery. If you donâ??t want to have to do anything else once youâ??ve jailbroken your iPhone, itâ??s a good idea to avoid jailbreaking.

Voiding Warranty

Did you know at one time it was illegal to tamper with your iPhone in this way? Whilst nobody was prosecuted it sent everything underground.

Itâ??s still underground because Apple will have nothing to do with a phone which has been tampered with. If youâ??ve decided to mess around with it you lose your warranty. They wonâ??t fix anything if you break it. You can still do this after your warranty has expired, though.

Data Caps

Most people have some sort of data cap. If they go over this data cap they have to pay more. A phone which hasnâ??t been jailbroken will automatically enforce these caps to stop you from going over a certain limit. Remove the restrictions and you need to take care to measure how much data youâ??re using. Unless you have an unlimited data plan, you could see your monthly bills double as a result of playing around with the inner workings of your mobile device.

Bugs Everywhere

Like with anything produced by a community unconnected to the original manufacturer, thereâ??s the possibility of having to deal with bugs. These bugs can appear anywhere and they can take an unlimited amount of time to deal with.

A few years ago there were complaints the FaceTime feature was disabled on jailbroken phones. It took quite a while to find the source of the problem and fix it. With new features appearing with the new iPhone 5S, this could happen again with the biometric finger scanners. It could happen with anything.

You have to be prepared for bugs, especially if youâ??re jailbreaking a phone which has recently been released. If you want everything to work well without any problems, thereâ??s no reason why you should be manipulating your iPhone.

Security Concerns

There are security concerns regarding these phones. You have to take responsibility for your own security. Hackers have managed to implant malware on these phones before and steal information. If you enter personal information, for example if you shop online, itâ??s very unwise to expose your phone in this way.

Itâ??s much safer to avoid jailbreaking your phone altogether. You have to ask yourself whether the risks of having your privacy compromised are worth a few extra apps and more control.

Earwig image

Female earwig – CC image by ArtMechanic

This may seem like a strange question, and indeed is not something most people ever think about, but surprisingly enough is a comment that comes back more and more often, about whether or not insects can live or make a home of your ear.

The reason probably comes from stories and urban legends where people have reported instances of insects being found in their ears, although the source of these stories can be hard to track down. So it is true, can insects lay eggs in your ear, and does it happen with any frequency?

Most of the stories we hear about these types of things refer to spiders being found in an ear, or perhaps other common insects. In those cases, the veracity is doubtful. It certainly is possible for a spider to go into someone’s ear as they sleep, but it seems unlikely that they could make it into a home. First of all, even if an ear canal could be a moist, comfortable place for an insect, there is little to eat, so they would need to come out at some point. Also, if you clean yourself, you likely won’t allow your ears to become filthy enough for an insect to stay there undetected. It is a simple matter to get them out, and if you can’t, then filling your ear canal with mineral oil will kill them off.

Typically, what seems more credible is when people talk about smaller, less common insects. The earwig for example is a family of insects that love to make themselves at home in small crevices. They are very small and flat, so that they can fit in small areas. They have been observed in all sorts of small areas, so it isn’t inconceivable that those could enter and be undetected for a bit. However, again the evidence isn’t conclusive. There are only a few urban stories and nothing to back them up. Chances are these insects are far more comfortable on the ground than on your skin, regardless whether it’s inside an ear or somewhere else.

Instead, what typically happen are worms such as intestinal worms, inside of your body, things you ingested by mistake when going on a trip abroad. There are scientific studies about those, and medical professionals have developed treatments to take care of these things, while we don’t have any earwig removers out there. These types of worms are more dangerous and should be taken seriously, whereas ear insects are mostly the subject of science fiction.

With that said, it’s still important to keep your ears clean enough to detect any such instance. After all, hygiene is the most important part of medicine, since preventing diseases is far easier than dealing with it after the fact. Insects can be creepy and scary to some people, and there are many products and means of getting rid of them, however it’s best not to dwell upon the fictitious problems, and concentrate on what can genuinely happen with a lack of self hygiene.

If you read our Eyetuner Photo Editor app review, or you used it at some point, then you’re familiar with the app developing team called Wiremuch. If you’ve used their apps before, then you’ll know that they are really quality apps that are worth trying out.

Today we want to inform you about a game Wiremuch is releasing within the next week. It’s a free iOS retro fighter, and you’ll love every bit of it.

IRON DRAGON

Iron Dragon starts off with the main character having his sister kidnapped by the Tiny Ninja Thief clan. As soon as the brother hears the news, he sets out to save her from the evil clan. However he can’t do it alone. His sister’s friend can provide upgrades and tools that will help him succeed against the increasingly difficult enemies and boss rounds.

In addition to this game having a well developed mini-storyline, it also has a great retro style. The music and graphics are all on par with retro games that many of us have come to love. Picking up Iron Dragon and playing it for a couple of minutes is likely to bring back Nintendo nostalgia.

If you’re looking forward to getting this game, then you should sign up for a notification on their site which will tell you when the games come out. Also once you sign up, you can invite friends with a special link that earns you raffle points for a $15 iTunes gift card give away.

Expect us to review this game in detail 🙂

Jet Pilot Lite is a game created by Grace Judulco. It is free, but if you want more fun you can get the paid version for 99 cents. This app works on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Gameplay

Jet Pilot Lite is a great airplane shooting game. It uses a retro style that is bound to bring up nostalgia if you were around to play the Nintendo. Even if you didnâ??t have the opportunity to play older games, you will still enough Jet Pilot.

The story behind this game is that youâ??re protecting Australia from invasion. In fact, when you first start flying with your airplane, you fly off an Australian air strip.

While playing itâ??s very easy for your heartbeat to rise. This game is intense and really addicting. As you fly you have to shoot down airplanes, ships, and really large airplanes. Planes come out of all directions, and even from behind you, forcing you to be even more alert.

Some airplanes shoot forward, while some shoot behind themselves. Ships on the other hand will aim directly at your plane and shoot.

After you pass each stage, you get a couple of seconds to rest, but then itâ??s back to fighting enemies. The game goes on endlessly for as far as you can survive. However while youâ??re playing you only have three lives, so if you lose them, you have to start from the beginning.

The Lite version of Jet Pilot only comes with 5 stages, while the $.99 version comes with unlimited stages. The graphics are also really on-par with retro game styles. If you play on the iPad, you’ll be surprised the graphics are also Retina ready. Airplane sounds are also really realistic.

Mission Accomplished

Itâ??s awesome that this game has a lite version so you can try it out before purchasing the paid one. Jet Pilot Lite doesnâ??t even have any advertisements.

Room to improve

While playing this game I wasnâ??t able to find any glitches or shortcomings.

Conclusion

Whether youâ??re into retro games or not, Jet Pilot Lite is a game you have to try. Itâ??s free and easy to enjoy.

Hammerhead shark image

CC Image by Suneko

Very little in the sea scares people more than sharks.Even though there are quite a few worse threats if you go to the beach, such as getting a sunburn or having a jellyfish glue itself to your leg, there are many reasons that sharks appear as the greater threat.

Perhaps it’s the way they dance just under the surface of the water, with only their fin visible on top, or maybe it’s that when they do attack, it’s typically a vicious event, and they go in for the kill. Of course there are many types of sharks out there, some more dangerous than others, but perhaps the most unusual one is the hammerhead shark. This is a shark with a very visible and highly strange difference, the head is shaped like a hammer. Here is the information you may need in order to deal with them.

The head of a hammerhead shark is highly stretched horizontally, which is how this particular species got its name. It looks like a hammer, and can be recognized from far away. The family name is Sphynidae, and the most common location to find these types of sharks is around the waters Columbia, in South America, along with some islands to the south of Africa. These types of sharks like warm water, so they typically aren’t found in colder climates, where other types of sharks sometimes venture. They are also not that numerous, and have even become an endangered species over the years.

The hammerhead is typically around 10 to 1,200 lbs and can stretch up to 20 feet long. They are all grey and all have the same type of strangely shaped head. There is no conclusive evidence that would indicate why the head is shaped like that, but scientists think it may be so the shark can see better. By having an elongated head, it can cover a wider range and help it see farther distances. Sharks typically use a process called electroreceptory in order to find food, where they bring their heads back and forth to sense electromagnetic signals in the water. By having this type of head, it helps the hammerhead sense better.

Interestingly, not a lot of actually hammerheads are out on display since sharks do not have strong bones to leave behind a skeleton. In fact, the hammerhead is now a protected type of shark against fishing because of how rare it has become. If it goes extinct, this may well be the last sight of such a strange looking creature. There are still a few thousands of them in the oceans, but this could be reduced quickly if fishing were to resume against them.

In all, 33 attacks have been recorded against humans by hammerheads. None were said to be fatal. So, the answer is yes, they can attack if they feel threatened, but they do not eat people and there have been no recorded deaths. Instead, this shark typically eats fish, squids and crustaceans. Scientists have even observed the hammerhead eat other types of sharks. A separate species, the Great Hammerhead, is especially aggressive and can eat whole sharks by itself.

History apps picture

Nowadays children find different ways to discover the world. For example, couple of decades ago, reading books was the only way to gain some general knowledge and learn something interesting. However, today modern technologies give all their best to make things a bit easier for us. You see something on National Geographic Channel, go to your computer and click ‘Google‘. And only a few seconds later you can understand all you need to know about it. In this article we will show you another really innovative way to learn things. As you probably know, iOS is the most popular operating systems in the world. Today, it offers its consumers a great and a very useful way to spend their spare time. Educational apps are suitable for people from all ages. They are a fantastic source of knowledge and entertainment. So here are three of the best history iOS apps for iPad.

1. Virtual History â?? Roma

ipad on table imageOur first suggestion will take you on an unforgettable trip around ancient Rome. Now you are able to explore this fascinating city in 3D only by moving around your own apartment. You will discover a lot of 3D objects and watch how the city changes through the course of time right in front of your eyes. The program is separated into two sections. The first one includes the major public works and the army of the city, whereas the second is about the globalisation and the fall of the ancient empire. So if you are looking for a new and impressive way to explore the history of this powerful civilization, this is the best choice for you .

2. Pyramids 3D

From the ancient city of Rome, we move to another mystical civilization. Everybody loves stories about the famous Egyptian pyramids and tombs. Now you can go on an interactive 3D tour of Giza Plateau. The program allows you to take a look at the Great Pyramid, Great Sphinx, as well as a large number of tombs, And the best part is that all you need to do is sit in your couch and enjoy. You can move from one chamber to another, rotate and zoom all the objects in the gallery and read the descriptions. Unfortunately, this is the largest app in our list â?? 1.4GB and it is not free. 3. Today in history

This application is available not only for iPad, but also for iPhone and iPod touch. And it is absolutely free! We know what you think â?? there are so many ‘today in history’ apps. How is this one any different? The truth is that most of the other ‘today in history apps’ tend to be Anglo-centric and many people with a bit wider interest find them pretty useless. This one offers you over 100,000 historical events from all over the world. The description of each of the events is no more than a couple of sentences long. However, if you want to get some further information, just tap the event and you will be given a list of information sources, such as Wikipedia or some other reliable website.

Sinclair C5 image

The Sinclair C5, the answer to global warming rejected by the masses . . .

Electric vehicles are nothing new. In fact, the first ones have been invented many decades ago, and could now be the norm on our roads if everyone had been working with that idea in mind.

Of course, any established industry fights to keep itself in place, and the automotive industry is quite large. The electric car was more or less exterminated until very recently, when traditional auto makers realized they could no longer push back the future and started introducing the hybrid vehicles we know today. But not everyone bows down to the desires of the wealthy, and one particular company that kept working on electric vehicle is Sinclair Research.

Back in 1985, Sinclair introduced the C5, a very unusual electric vehicle meant for the UK. It’s not really a car, more like a tricycle with three tires, and the motor could only assist the driver, not do all the work. Someone would need to pedal in order to recharge the rather small battery, which could then power the electric motor that could bring you up slopes and so on. The vehicle was also very low cost, which was surprising, since back then electric bikes or vehicles of any type working on an electric motor were very rare. It proved to be very popular in the media, but unfortunately for the company, it wasn’t a good seller.

The main issue was the fact that it was an open tricycle. In the UK weather, any type of vehicle without a roof would cause a problem. It also had design problems. The cold weather drained the battery much faster than anticipated, and the low profile meant that the vehicle could be hard to see on the road, causing fears of accidents. In all, 17,000 units were sold during that year. They eventually made a racing model of the C5 which could go up to 150 miles per hour, a new record for an electric vehicle, but those did not sell well either.

Sinclair didn’t give up however, and just recently the company announced their X-1 vehicle. The design is actually heavily inspired by the C5, but with a much better finish and better technology as well. For one thing, the X-1 has a roof, making it easy to ride when it rains or in mild cold. It uses a 24v Lithium battery pack and again can be used in conjunction with the pedals inside of the vehicle. The company said of their earlier C5 model that it was a good attempt for the time, but now technology has improved greatly and the X-1 will be a next generation electric tricycle.

The design was introduced in 2010 and set to be released in 2011 in the UK, but delays have been pushing this release back. If it ever hits the road, the price should be around 595 pounds.
