Viber for Windows, iOS, Android & Blackberry

Icon for ViberViber is one of the social applications that is about to become extremely popular if the makers play their cards right. It’s been available on Android, Blackberry and iOS for a while now, and has just made its début on Windows Phone too.

The idea of the app is to allow people to connect with one another through phone calls and text message, wherever they are in the world, without paying a penny. You could have a Blackberry Curve or the brand new Samsung Galaxy S3 from Vodafone or O2, and so long as you have the app, communicate with your friends for free.

Of course both of you need to have the app in order for this to work. It’s just a download away though and so simple to use. How does it work? Well, it basically searches through your phone book on your behalf and finds everyone who has the app. It then syncs your phone so these contacts show up on the Viber app.

The reason it is so simple? Unlike with the likes of MSN and Twitter, You don’t need an email address to add a contact. It automatically locates the friends with it for you, which is much less hassle for you.

What does it mean? If you were to go on a holiday, and wanted to communicate with people back home for free, you can send a message or call someone through the app wherever you are in the world. No overseas charges. It’s a bit like Skype in that way. And you won’t end up with an enormous phone bill at the end of your trip.

If you have an Android, Blackberry or iPhone at the moment, you can make calls and text messages through the app now. The Windows Phone version of Viber doesn’t have the capability to make calls yet, although they are working on this.

Give it a go.

    • Hi 🙂
Great, I’ll keep an eye out for updates on Facebook. I use this app a lot personally on my Android phone and think that Viber and services like Skype are where the future of messaging and phone calls is going.

When Viber first came out I found it hard to believe that you could message and call for free, I initially thought . . . ‘But where’s the catch?’ but it is real and more and more of my family and friends are hearing about it and trying it out. You’ve made it simple to use too.

I’d say that over the last few months especially, people seem to have become more aware, through word of mouth mainly, about Viber.

      Keep up the great work.

      Thank you for your message.
      Kevin 🙂

  2. Hi, I have installed Viber on my Windows phone. I can receive message but wheni reply it says unsent! Is there a reason for this? Can anyone help?

    • Not sure on this one? I know that if the person you are sending it to has registered as a Viber user but doesn’t have an Internet connection on their phone it will say ‘unsent’ and also, if you send a message but they are not currently online it may say ‘sent’ but not ‘delivered’ and even when it’s delivered it may not have been ‘read’ yet.

Again, I’m puzzled because you are obviously replying to messages that were sent to you by people actually using Viber so this is an odd one. If anyone has any other ideas on what this could be please leave a comment 🙂

      • I have similar problem. I have windows phone 7 (HTC HD7) and viber installed, my friend has Samsung Desire, Anroid, and of course viber installed, he can communicate with other viber users, he can even send me messages and photos via viber, but i can not sent any messages to him, viber says “message unsent, use SMS instead?” or something like that, although i can send and receive messages pictures from/to other friends. I deleted this friend from address book and recorded again, rebooted the phone, but problem is still alive. Can anybody has a suggestion? Thanks.
