REVIEW
Hulu on Roku is a working app on a death watch.
Disney is folding Hulu into the Disney+ app over the course of 2026. The Roku channel still works. The Nintendo Switch one shut down in February. There is a clock on this app.

Reviewing Hulu on Roku in May 2026 is reviewing an app that, by Christmas, may not be the right install. Disney announced the consolidation in August 2025: Hulu, the brand and the catalogue, gets folded into Disney+. The standalone app stays alive for a transition window measured in months, and the first official shutdown — Hulu on Nintendo Switch — happened in February. Roku is not Switch, but Roku is also not on Disney’s list of platforms with extended support guarantees, so the assumption has to be: it goes too, this year.
What’s strange is that the app itself is fine. It launches fast, plays cleanly, and the Live TV grid is the best of any cable-replacement service on the platform. None of that is a reason to pick it. The reason is the consolidation: subscribers who install the Roku Hulu channel today will be installing Disney+ and migrating their session before the year is out, so the right answer for a new subscriber is to skip a step and start with Disney+.
There is a slight melancholy to all of this. Hulu is the last of the standalone streaming brands from the original streaming wave to fully fold into a parent. The app is being absorbed in the same year its catalogue is being expanded. The icon goes away; the shows do not. That is, in 2026, what success in streaming looks like.
There is nothing wrong with Hulu on Roku in May 2026. There also might not be a Hulu on Roku by December.
FEATURES
The Roku Hulu channel offers the full Hulu catalogue — current-season network TV (FX, ABC, NBC, FOX next-day), Hulu Originals, the licensed film library, and Hulu + Live TV bundles where subscribed. Standard Roku-platform integrations: deep linking from Roku Home, voice search through the remote, Connected Search across services.
Pricing is unchanged for now. Hulu (with ads) at $9.99/month, Hulu (No Ads) at $18.99, Hulu + Live TV starting at $82.99. The Disney Bundle (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+) at $24.99/month for the no-ads trio is the path most subscribers are on. Login still uses an activation code at hulu.com/activate, the same flow Roku has used since 2015.
No 4K HDR for non-live content (still SD/HD), no Dolby Atmos passthrough, no profile-level parental PIN — the channel inherits the same feature gaps it had two years ago.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Stability is the achievement. Hulu on Roku has been the most reliable streaming channel on the platform for years — launches in under three seconds, plays without buffering on a base-model Streaming Stick, and remembers your show position across devices. It does what a TV channel should do, in the boring way that Roku users specifically have come to value.
Hulu + Live TV's channel guide is the best of the cable-replacement TV apps on Roku — better than YouTube TV's overcrowded grid, better than Sling's outdated chrome. If you watch live news or live sports, this is still the most usable TV app on the platform.
ROOM TO IMPROVE
In August 2025 Disney announced it would fully integrate Hulu into the Disney+ app during 2026. The Nintendo Switch standalone Hulu app shut down on 5 February 2026 as the first platform-specific consolidation. Disney has not committed to a Roku timeline, but the trajectory is clear: at some point this year, the Roku Hulu channel will redirect users to install Disney+ and use it for Hulu content.
The lack of 4K HDR on a streaming app in 2026 is a function of contracts, not technology. The lack of profile PINs is harder to defend; competing services (Netflix, Disney+) have had per-profile parental PINs for years. The 480p ad reels that play before content on the with-ads tier still upscale into a blurry mess on a 4K TV.
CONCLUSION
Use the Hulu Roku channel for as long as it exists. When the migration prompt arrives, install Disney+. The catalogue and your subscription are unaffected by the move; the only thing changing is which icon on your Roku Home screen launches it. If you're new to Hulu and on Roku in May 2026, install the Disney+ app instead and add a Hulu plan there — you'll skip the eventual migration step entirely.
