App reviews,
written like it matters.
App Comrade is the independent editorial guide to the apps people actually use, across the seven stores that ship the world's software. We test, we use, we form an opinion, and then we write it down without softening the edges.
App Comrade was founded in 2010 as AppReviews4u by Kevin Baker, one of the early voices on the App Store treating mobile applications as media worth a critic's attention. Long before "app review" was a content category, the site was already publishing the format you take for granted now: a verdict, a score, a pull quote, and a clear answer to whether it's worth your money.
The site rebranded as App Comrade and is now run by Octavian Ristea. In 2026, App Comrade left WordPress behind for a custom-built editorial platform, and broadened its remit beyond Apple to cover Android (Google Play and Samsung Galaxy), Roku, Amazon, Samsung Tizen TVs, and LG webOS. The premise stayed the same: people install software in seven different places now, and an honest review should follow them there.
How we review.
Every review on App Comrade is written by an editor who has used the app — usually for several days, often for years. We read changelogs, we use the app on the hardware it ships for, we compare it against the alternatives that already won that category, and we score on a 0–10 scale that means something. Editor's Picks (9.0 and above) are rare on purpose.
We don't write sponsored reviews. We don't accept payment for coverage. Apps reach the site because an editor decided they were worth writing about, full stop. When we link to an app store, the link goes to the public store page — no affiliate codes, no tracking middleware. If that ever changes, we'll say so on this page first.
How we know what's out there.
App Comrade pulls metadata — names, icons, ratings, screenshots, release dates — from krawl, an in-house crawler that indexes every major app store on a continuous cycle. The reviews themselves are written by humans. The metadata is current to the last successful crawl. If you spot something stale or wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
Who's behind it.
The App Comrade desk is a small group of editors who've been writing about consumer software for, in some cases, longer than the App Store has existed. We don't list bylines on every review — the desk's voice is the byline — but you can email us directly at [email protected] if you want to reach a specific editor or pitch a correction.
